Palm Pre

I played around with my wife's Palm Pre and found it synced easily with her Clubman's Bluetooth system. It also recognized the Pre through the USB port and functioning similarly to an iPod. However, the only way I could broad cast the navigation offered on the Pre was by using the AUX phone jack, which negates all other media.

Also, the USB port charges the Pre.

How is the Pre? Does it live up to the hype?

From my wife's perspective -- YES! As the commercial says -- priceless!!

As a tech geek, I would say it has just about everything but the ability to add storage (micro SD). Very good audio, nice display, and a InvisibleShield on order from ZAGG for the Pre, considering that at least a thirds of her car is wrapped in similar material.

No SD? That stinks. I guess you can't have everything. I laugh at Apple and their "range of software". Palm was able to do this years ago. Its too bad palm has a sucky marketing department. I can't believe all the things my Treo 680 can do. It does everything from reading C02 output & setting fuel maps on my Ducati to reading ODBC error codes and output in my car. Two totally different tasks all from one device. It truely is an electronic pocket knife. I hope developers will take to the new OS.

Thanks MegaMini!

I've just posted a link to your thread over in the Bluetooth compatibility thread, and added the Pre to my list too.

Shame about the lack of SD, but hopefully there's future versions!

I also got the Pre on launch day, and let me tell you...it's awesome. Totally blows the iphone out of the water. It paired with my bluetooth flawlessly, and downloaded all of my contacts without problem. Now, only if they made a center armrest snap in adapter for the mini...

i just got my Pre over the weekend. It is AMAZING!! I love it. There was a slight hiccup with the sync, but my Simone and the Pre worked it out amongst themselves and now everyone is happy. I think it is SO much better than the iPhone!!

I just realized that for some reason the phone book (contacts) has not loaded to her Clubman. Everything else is working fine. If you have discovered how to make this work, please share the details.

Thank you

Is the Pre really that different from its competitors with respect to hookup?

we have one of the palm pre's here at work feels like cheap piece of plastic to me, if you dropped it on the concrete on accident hip level would probably shatter and the screen scratches really easy. the new palm pro is probably the one you want if you want to stick with palm os.

Would you like it to be made of steel or something? It feels solid to me, and I've been using it heavily since launch day, with no scratches. My wife actually dropped hers from 4ft off the ground and it didn't even scratch.

Why would you want to still use the old palm os? It was good in it's day, but the web os on the pre is leaps and bounds over the palm os. Plus all of the old palm os apps will work on web os.

The way you're putting down the Pre makes me think you work for Apple or are just an iphone fanboy...

Touchstone charge in car?

I had a thought about my Pre, I wanted to see if I picked up the Touchstone charger if I could put it in the drink holder and plug it into USB if I would be able to charge my Pre? Seems like a perfect stand/charging solution in the car rather than having to plug the cable into the side and figure out where to place it. If anyone has done this, let me know.

BTW, Pre is head and shoulder's above the rest. There are obviously things the iPhone does better as they had first mover advantage, but multitasking for me puts the iPhone to shame. Plus, my rate plan is much cheaper so cost to own over the long run is much better.

Not in a Mini, but in a BMW, it's possible.
