Help with complete system replacement
Hello all. I posted a while back with some problems with a friend's HK system in her 05 convertible. Because of all of the uncertainty of what might be the issue, and the cost of HK replacement pieces, I have convinced her to replace everything. Therefore, I will be installing a new head unit, Alpine 50x4 amplifier, and new speakers. One of her main goals is keeing the steering wheel controls. I know there are some generic MFSW adapters out there (PAC, etc..) and also the Mini specific ones linked to on here. Also see that some plug into the back of some receivers, while others use a remote eye to mimic a wireless remote. I'd like to hit some of you all up for some recommendations.
- Can a couple people relay some experience with different head units and MFSW adapters? I am fairly open on the head unit. I would like to keep the price reasonable and it looking somewhat close to stock. (she doesn't need a ton of odd features, just aux in, maybe ipod control, and 4 pre-amp outs) I'll probably order the head unit from Crutchfield as well as the amp. I just want to be as sure as possible that whatever head and MFSW adapter I buy will work well together.
- Any experience with reasonably priced speakers? I have done some searching and read a few things. Thinking components up front with the tweeters behind the stock grills. (saw a few threads on this, doesn't look too difficult) Would then with coax in the rear. I have had decent results with Infinity Reference as a good budget priced speaker, and also see that Crutchfield has a good Polk sale going now. Unlike the head unit, not tied to Crutchfield though on the speakers, as I know there are better prices out there.
