Hi-Fi Freezing

Hey Miniacs,

I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced their Hi-Fi System freeze mid-drive?

In the last month, I've had the radio freeze about 4 times requiring me to either turn the radio off or in one case, restart the car. The sound totally goes away, couldn't adjust the volume nore change stations.

Wondering if its time for a dealer run for something I know they won't find a problem with.

I've had a similar issue arise when trying to use my iPhone for music. It happens only occasionally, so I haven't been able to isolate the issue. With this caveat, it seems to be related to changes on the iPhone. That is, if I change a large amount of music on the iPhone, the MINI seems to hang for quite some time to handle the update. This doesn't seem to happen all the time, though, so some other factor may be at play.

It REALLY impacts motoring pleasure, though, since it brings to mind an old joke that compared Windows computers to cars. I never thought I'd see the day that the joke came true.

For reference, my car is an '09 MCS (R56) with the usb option.

My car 2009 MCS does it also. No Hi Fi just the std system. Radio cuts out then after a little while it picks a random station (none that I picked). Can't turn it off, adjust the volume or change the station. I just turn the car off - take the key out - insert key and restart. This has only happened twice since Oct 2008. Never brought it in to the dealer...

i've had similiar problems with my system, non hifi. But thought it might have to do with my upgrades, Alpine speakers all around including Alpine sub n Alpine signal processor. I've made an appointment with my audio installer for Fri, but also have an appointment with Mini on Thurs. for a few issues. Mine goes out when I'm playing ipod loudly, it just stops playing. No sound, but controls still function. Only way to get it to work is by turning off my mini n restarting it. Thinking of bringing it up to Mini but I'm sure they'll blame the aftermarket equipment.

stock amp clipping

I had the same issue after I upgraded all my speakers for my hifi with infinity kappas. Apparently when playing the stereo loudly the amp couldn't push all the speakers so would shut down. I cut the signals for the rear 6X9's and added a 10" sub to the add on amp I installed so now the stock amp only has to push the front speakers, awesome, as loud as I want now.
