Running speakers in parallel mode
I currently have a clarion dpx11511 amp in my mini cooper. My friend is going to sell me his dual mtx 9500 12' ,4 ohm each in one box. Can I run these at a total of 2 ohms so my amp can push out 1550watts.? Help please.
Do you mean the DPX11500? It's stable into a 2 Ω mono load, and the MTX 9500 recommends 500-1000 Watts per driver, so I don't see any problems, assuming your alternator can provide enough current. (That's actually a pretty big "if", but you're not going to be putting out 1500 W for long periods of time, so you might be okay.)
The alternator will be fine . What I would recommend is to upgrade your factory grounds. There are three mains places to upgrade
1.alternator to the frame
2.engine block to the frame
3.battery to the frame
Having said that , most amp manufactures are not all that truthful of poer output of an amp .
I would say just hook it up don't worry about the numbers , you'll be fine.
If you feel you want to change something in a car change the grounds.
Many moons ago i learned this lesson the hard way I though buying an alternator was the answer , $1200 later I had a new alternator and nothing changed.
Thats my .02
