Bluetooth earpiece vs MINI Bluetooth

I am currently waging the battle of the Bluetooths. I am using an I-Phone 3G and have the Mini fully preped for the I-Phone. I love the ability to dial through the radio interface or with voice dial. What is an issue is that sound quality is not great with the Mike (I have moved it to the drivers side). I can activate my earpiece and it will take over the call which works fine. But after about 10 seconds the Mini will search again and take the call back to the built in mike and speakers. The only solution I have found so far is to shut off the cars Bluetooth once I have switched over to the earpiece and then turn it back on when the call ends. Has anyone come up with a more seamless solution. Mini motoring in by MCCS for one month and loving it.

Don't have a solution, but what do you mean by "voice dial".

The multi function steering wheel has a voice dial button. You enter names into the system when "training" it and then when you want to place a voice dialed call you press the button, are promted for the name, which you state, it then dials the number using your bluetooth enabled phone. The voice dial feature is independent of the phones address book.

oooooooooooooooooh, I was wondering how that worked. I guess I need to peruse the smart phone section of the manual again.

Thanks,

I have been on both ends of the conversation with both the Mini bluetooth and the receiving end with someone who has a bluetooth headset. Both were in my car at the time and the bluetooth headset picked up just as much noise as the Mini mic. In fact i would say that the Mini mic actually sounded better.

It not just for smart phones. It is supposed to work for all phones but if you read thru the threads here you will find that it works better with some phone and not so good with others.

Case in point. Motorola E-815. if the number or name programed into the Mini was the same as a contact loaded in the phone it did would not work. But with some other phones it made no difference.

Now i have not tried it with my new Blackberry 8330 Curve but supposedly it should work fine. It's just been to cold out to paly with it.

I have received complaints from the person on the other end about sounding distant when I am talking via the MINI Bluetooth microphone.

Okay, I am being lazy and do not have the manual handy. How do you program the numbers for voice command?

Some phones like the old Razr's voice dial without any training. The Mini some how reads your phone book entries and can compare it to what ever you tell it to dial. Even though the phone book entries have no voice dialing associated with them (in the phone or the Mini). It's quite amazing how well it works.

I must confess that I haven't pursued the voice dialing either. But I love the bluetooth feature and haven't had any complaints from the receiving end ( so far it's only been a month) the funny thing is that when I am talking on it I tend to lean way over to my right and yell up towards the little speaker,,, I am sure I look really silly to passerby's.
I have a Blackberry Pearl, it was great -it tranferred all of my contacts right to the radio screen for viewing.

The main reason I haven't tried the voice dialing, I tend to have this weird southern Ohio twang and I swear those voise dial things never seem to understand me and goes like this
Please say your number
me- 9
voice dialer 1?
me 9!
voice dialer 5?
and so on until it tells to me hang up......this is the honest to god's truth,, I end up screaming at the dash.... of course this was with the GMC on stars,, maybe Mini will understand me!

So minidriver- if the names and number show up on my screen are you saying I might already have the voice dialing all set up??

It depends on your phone. Some voice dial without any setup. Some don't. My Razr voice dials any listing in the phonebook without any setup.

I believe the microphone has noise-canceling technology, which is why you might sound distant in the car when you are driving. If you are stopped in a parking lot or some place quiet, it should work better.

You store the names into the on-board bluetooth system using your voice. I had Bluetooth in my previous car, a BMW. After pressing the voice button on the MFSW the dialog goes something like:

you: "save number"
computer: "say the number"
you: (you say the number you want stored)
computer: it repeats it
you: yes/no
computer: "say the name"
you: (say the name for the number)
computer: "(the telephone number) is saved for (the name)"

So you store each name to the computer and it has nothing to do with your phone. Your phone is only used to make calls.

Once the names are stored, you just say "call James" and it will call the corresponding number (assuming it recognizes the name you just said).

Thanks, I will try that.

ALso note that with the NAV system there is no training involved but with out NAV you have to "Train", "Manually Input" the name and nubmer.

The above post is a representation of how it is done, but of different versions of software there are different words that have to be used to do the input and save functions. Such as mine requires,
1."Save Name"
2. it asks you say the name.
3. You say the name
4. i asks you to repeat the name.
5. then it asks you for the number
6. you say the number
7. it states the number and says continue
8. then you must say "Save Name" Not "yes", Not "continue"

It can be very confusing depending on the version of software in the car.

Also the previous poster here used "Call James", On my earlier Version of software in my car you have to say "Dial James" if i use the word "Call" it does not understand it.

There is also a 20 Name/Number Limit to the entries in the Voice dialing system of the Non NAV units.

This system is very temper mental, and needs to be played with to make it work correctly

I may have mislead you when I stated you have to train the system. The voice dial on the non Nav programs the same as the Nav described above. One word of caution. The way the manual describes saving numbers is incorrect, it has you use the wrong term, I can't remember what it is. The easiest way to get the correct terms is to activate the voice system by pushing the voice button. It then has a help feature that will list all the correct terms such as "save name", "save number", etc.

My mistake I misread Schatzy62's post above. They do program differently, but do watch out for the term issue.

I know for a fact that different versions of the Mini software for voice dialing on Non NAV cars can be different terms. Case in point a freind has a new 09 and the terms used are different that the terms used in my 08.

Also if my memory serves me correctly the NAV cars actually do not have a programable voice dial system they actually use the voice dialing of the phone to make it work, so if you phone is not voice dial capable tehn it will not voice dial.

I don't have voice dialing setup on my phone yet it dials by voice in the Mini.
