Hmmm.. There seem to be some people with a real knack for electronics on these boards. I wonder how hard it would be to deconstruct, and perhaps put together a DIY instruction set using Radio Shack parts.

I feel bad for all the Canadians, Euros, and Americans who are stuck paying $100 for a cable that should probably been given to them. An option to spend $30 in parts and a little time splicing wires would seem like a help to me.

Any confirmation of this?

Only that every Canadian on this board has had to pay for it.

Only a few Americans have had to pay for it.

As for the couple of Mexicans on the board they have also had to pay for it.

Although i am sure it is possible it would be rather difficult from what i saw when i had mine open as i could not find anything about one of the chips inside the cable so finding the right chip might take some real work and testing. The Serial to USB Chip should be readily available. But there are also other parts needed like a oscillator and some caps and resistors that are surface mount technology to make them small enough to embed in a cable.

As for the parts coming form Radio Shack, it will not happen they do not carry these parts, and it is doubtful that they could even order them thru their special order department. It would take a dedicated DIY electronics store.
