Aux input - only left side is audible?!?!

i installed an aux kit into my 03 hk mcs; i purchased a used 05 oem deck that plays mp3's. the first aux kit only had sound coming from the driver's side, nothing from the passenger's side. i got a second kit and tested it before i installed it. same outcome. i checked the pins and they all seem in good condition. the cd player and radio work fine, just the aux is screwy! i made sure i had stereo plugs. i'm using my sony ericcsson w580i phone as an mp3 player. someone please help! please please please thank you!

Have you tested anything else besides your phone (such as an iPod or mp3 player)? If you did and had the same results, and since you've already tried two different aux kits, I hate to say it but the problem could be in the headunit.

BTW, I assume you already made sure that your stereo cord works 100%. It's unlikely to have a broken connection, but you have to systematically eliminate all the possible causes.

I haven't heard of a ground loop problem causing one side to drop out. A ground loop isolator usually fixes a problem where the head unit can't detect that aux is available, and aux stops showing up as a selection. It can happen when the player is connected to both aux and power (cigarette lighter) at the same time.

You've done just about everything I would have done. It would be a bummer if the fault is in the head unit.

You may want to check the length of the plug on your cable. The aux input in mine prefers a slightly longer "stereo" plug. There appears to be two types of plugs (same size) that fit, but one is not long enough to always make a stereo connection.

I'm having this same problem right now. Did you ever find a cause for the problem?

sounds like either A.) there is short somewhere on the jack itself B.) you're using cables that are either mono or shorting out or C.) whatever device you're using has a short in it's mini jack port.

Hmmm... obviously it was the old head unit. You know come to think of it, I had a similar problem on my 03 MC where the Aux In kept going in and out. Turned out it had just come loose a little bit where I plugged it into the head unit. Not sure if you just bought a new head unit already or if you're just borrowing one or what's up. But for future reference for you or anyone else, I'd check that first next time around.
