NAV Update

I'm curious if anyone else has had problems with the new 2008 map updates? I got the update DVD and the NAV system does not recognize it as a map disc.

NAVTEQ indicated that my MINI might need a firmware update.I have had the MINI just under 1 year, it seems odd to me that the NAV system should need a firmware upgrade in order to use a map update.

I do have a service appointment already scheduled to have the dealer take a look at this problem.

Where did you get the 2008 update? From Navteq?

Yes, from NAVTEQ. I called them to order it since it isn't showing up on their web site. I'm on the second DVD at the moment. I returned the first one for a replacement and the 2nd disc does the same thing. They were reluctant to send out a replacement disk but they did since the closest MINI dealer is about 2 hours away from me.

They probably sent you the High Version which is for the older 02-06 mini's 07-08 uses BMW's idrive system in which you need the 2008.1 Professional DVD :-)

Hmmm....that could be it as I believe it was the High version listed on the packing slip. I'll take another look at the packing slip when I get home tonight but you are probably on the right track. NAVTEQ said that all of them use the same DVD (which I didn't think to be the case).

Yep, that seems to be it. They sent me the high version instead of the professional. I called my dealer's parts department and confirmed that the 07s use the professional DVD.

I've called NavTeq and they are having to do some research as they don't have any information indicating that my MINI should use the professional DVD. They cannot even find the part part number for the 07 map DVD that I have in their system.

So, $200 for the DVD? Any idea of what changes it would have from 2007?

My April 2007 built MCS Coupe Has had one sofware update that fixed problems with voice activation.

Yup I figured Navteq didn't know since on their website you can't even search and find the 08 mini disk it says call them. I can always make a copy of mine and send it to you if you want. :-)

I forget who it was, but some one else bought the 08 disc, saying it was the same as one of the BMW model cars. They had trouble with the disc being read as well. I don't know if that person ever got the issue resolved. Let us know what your dealer says.

Correct, the map update is $199 plus shipping. I don't know yet how much different it will be as I haven't gotten a working disc yet

I'll have to keep that in mind if the latest replacement DVD doesn't work, thank you

NavTeq was not able to confirm that my mid year 07 MINI needs the professional DVD but they are sending it out to me anyway as soon as they receive the high DVD back from me. I hope to have the professional DVD prior to my service appointment as I strongly believe that has been the cause of the prior two DVDs not working for me (I could read them on my PC but the NAV system wouldn't recognize them as map discs).

I'm hoping I'll have the professional DVD by the 8th or 11th of the month.

I emailed NavTeq and here was their response. Seems like the Nav system changed in 2007 so I don't understand why the March 2008 switch date is quoted.

Lee,

Thank you for contacting NAVTEQ. The DVD High disk corresponds to Minis that were manufactured from March 2003 to March 2008 and the DVD Pro disks are for any Minis manufactured after March of 2008 Please let us know if you have any further questions.

Yep, my thoughts exactly. Perhaps they are going off convertible models as that would be accurate as they didn't change to being a Gen II model until 2008.

I'll be able to confirm if the professional DVD works in the 07 NAV system hopefully by the end of the week. I've already tried 2 High DVDs without success.

Actually, convertibles still have not changed. They are due for a change in December 2008.

I think that Navteq are just confused. It makes perfect sense that 2007+ models would use the pro discs, as they mimic the BMW I drive systems, which also use pro discs.

Ah, I haven't checked on the cabrio in a while, their changes must have been pushed back another year than originally announced then.

Problem solved. I received the professional DVD yesterday. It works. If anyone is ordering the update for an 07 NAV system, make sure they order part # U0018-0075-710 which is for the MINI Professional NA DVD.

Thanks ecupip!

I'm the one that had the problem. I have an 07 Nav, and the 08 disc worked, but the system hung and crashed very often (once or twice a day) when using navigation (not just displaying the map). I gave up and went back to the 07 DVD.

Simpson, can you tell if that DVD is a dual Layer DVD (ussually has a -DL next to DVD make and model around rim. ex: "Maxwell DVD-DL")
