Downside of NAV system w/o Bluetooth/USB Ipod adaptor
Hi--I am new to NAM but have been reading the posts regarding NAV systems. I am not sure if the 2008 and 2009 systems are the same. I have ordered a MY 2009MC with the NAV system. I am trying to determine if I am going to be disappointed if I don't order the Bluetooth/USB IPOD adaptor. I think I understand that I won't actually have to use an IPOD since I have a USB port. However with out this adaptor is my NAV system only navigating and not utilizing its communication and entertainment capabilities? Currently I have a 2005 Chili Red MC. Thanks!
As far as i have been able to determine if you do not order the BLuetooth/USB/iPod option then you will not have a USB port.
If yo order the Bluetooth/USB/iPod option you are not required to use an iPod. The system will allow you to use an iPod, USB Stick, Other MP3 player. Only the iPod and the USB stick will have info show on the NAV screen.
On the Bluetooth side of things, more and more states are going to be requiring hands free use of phones in your car. The bluetooth system is the best way of doing this. Even if it is an aftermarket unit but many times that requires another screen in the car. Having the Bluetooh built in is just the best way to do it.

Thanks for the feedback. Sounds like USB is new to the 2009 model. NY already requires hands free so I am used to an earbud- which works fine for me. However- I am getting the NAV system but I am on the fence as to whether I should just spend the money on the Bluetooth/IPOD/USB adaptor which would then fully integrated with my NAV system. If I wasn't getting the NAV System I wouldn't spend the money on the BT/USB/IPOD adaptor-I would use what I have which is the earpiece-and I currently don't use the IPOD in my car. It is BECAUSE of the NAV system that I am considering the Adaptor. Let the pondering continue!
I jsut went thru the configurator again and the only USB i can find is if you order the Covn Package. It also seems that the seperate bluetooth that was offered in 08 has been taken out of the 09's as well.
I am a non-bluetooth-user and I'm pretty close to being a non-cellphone-user, but I did get the NAV in my '07. Yes, you do get the entertainment display and control via the NAV, even without the iPod, USB and BT. I'm not sure about the '09 but I can play MP3's in my CD drive and get full display (artist/title and directory) on the NAV, as well as for SIRIUS, FM, AM and HD. I now find myself on the verge, however, of wishing I had the BT feature, just because it's another cool gadget. If I had it to do over I would have gotten all the gadgets I could. Especially if I had known how much cash I was going to be saving on gasoline! I could have funneled a lot more money on toys
