Anyone installed a high end system in their Mini? I'm talking Focal, Diamond, CDT, etc...

I'm looking for ideas.

 

The install isn't even close to complete, but my finished system will include the following:

Morel Supremo Piccolo tweeters (in the a-pillars)
Morel CDM-54 dome midranges (also in the a-pillars)
Diamond HEX 6.5 mids in the doors and rear locations
2 x 12" Image Dynamics IDQ.V3 subs
ZAPCO REF 1000.4 for tweeters and mids
Alpine PDX 4.1000 for mids
Alpine PDX 1.600, one for each sub
Eclipse CD 7200mkII
Plus all the dynamat, wiring, electric system support necessary

I will post pictures when the system is nearly complete, so people don't have to follow the thread for a lifetime. I am doing the install myself, and at the same time studying for the bar and working, so it will be months.

 

I am in the process of putting my system together; have ordered most of the parts; hopefully should arrive for the weekend...

I went with:
Focal 165VR3 3-way component set for the front. Pricey, but supposed to be the best. I like that all the stock speaker locations will be used. I have the standard system, so I have ordered the pillar covers with the tweeter location to retrofit.

Focal 690CVX 6x9 for the rear. The dealer I purchased from offered these for $50 more than the lesser 690CA1

I debated long and hard on the Amplifier and ended up going with an Alpine PDX5. I am a little unsure of the Class D design, I think a Class AB would sound better; but went with the Alpine for the size. I considered the new JL Audio HD series amps, also a Class D; they are also small. The Signal to Noise rating was amazing at 110dbA on the JL Audio amps, vs. 86 (?) on the Alpine. The JL amps are new though, and shipping in small quantities, with the dealer quoting 3-4 weeks delivery time. Top off the long wait with the higher price tag and needing two amps rather than one and my decision was made. All the 5 channel Class AB amps I looked at were at least as much money as the Alpine if not a few hundered dollars more, plus were much larger in size.

I'm going to try the Alpine out and see how it goes, if I don't like it I will sell it and go with something else.

Still undecided on the subwoofer. I've been leaning towards the box offered by RoadsterSound, but JLAudio and Alta both have R56 enclosures due in the next 2 months...

I think I'm going to hold off for a few months on the sub and see what comes out. I might get a small (cheap) 8" sub to hold me over.

Still debating amplifier location. I'm seriously considering under the passenger side seat for stealth and space savings. Just putting it in the boot might be an easier install. (Especially with the RoadsterSound box that has a spot for the amp..)
