According to the release from MINI regarding Sirius, you can only get it in '03 and later models....

An aftermarket stereo shop can put one in for you much cheaper than your dealer. They should be able to do it withouth a problem.

If you are trying to install the factory kit, you need a radio from an 03 or 04, because they have the aux port that makes it compatible for either the aux-in or sirius.

Hope this helps

The Sirius receiver plugs into the CD Changer connector. The head unit needs updated firmware to recognize it. If you have a lete enough 2002 it _might_ work. Worst case, you replace the head unit, add the Sirius receiver and sell your 2002 head unit on eBay.

The display and presets are more limited than aftermarket, but the clean install and integration with the MFSW are worth it in my opinion.

How does it work as far as presets and tuning?

Do you just have to scoll through one channel after another to get what you want? How may presets are available?

Presets are just like AM/FM. You have three sets of six. The MFSW buttons scroll through all three sets in sequence. The only other option is to step a channel at a time with the arrows on the head unit or high speed scan by holding down the buttons on the MFSW. 18 presets is on the lower edge of adequate for me.

There is a 2004 model head unit for sale in the market place forums. No it's not me selling.

Now my question. I would like to stay stock as well but a local stereo shop said they couldn't hook up a tuner to my existing stereo and it work like a normal am/fm tuner does. The presets, switching channels and such. This tuner is what I was looking at. http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/P...asp?i=113SR901 Besides an antenna and subscription what would I need to have Sirius in my car?

For some reason it's pulling up the SR-901 receiver instead of the SR-902 that I was looking at. Maybe a cookie left over from logging in one time.

I guess this may be what I need. http://www.soundgate.com/products/cd/bmw-mini.htm# Am I correct? I know Blitzsafe makes an interface but it seems to be for XM only, no Sirius.

I have Sirius installed in my VW through the stock Bose system via and FM modulator. It is a separate display and it works by running through channel 89.7 or something like that. In addition to an antenna and subscription, you will also need the receiver (that decodes the signal) and an FM modulation kit if your head unit does not support it.

That looks right! I'm wondering if it will work and how much it will cost. Does ANYONE know about hooking up Sirius without dealer assistance? Sirius is giving away FREE Kenwood tuners if you buy an antenna and service. This is a pretyt good discount from the $300 that MINI is asking for the same device...

It seems to be a very simple install. Plug in the interface then hook up the tuner and that's it except for the power to the tuner and run the antenna cable. I found this thread where the soundgate was installed in a M3. http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/t87059.html Apparently it works very well and was mentioned to run around $130 for the Soundgate interface.

The person in the thread mentioned he ordered directly from Soungate. I was searching their site and found http://www.logjamelectronics.com/ listed as their online sales. Unfortunately they list the KBMWSIR out of stock nationwide.

Basically if the interface can be found for that price and Sirius is giving away free tuners then it should not cost much. Possibly $180 total if the antenna runs $50. That's not a bad price compared to what the dealership wants.

I got lucky and picked up the complete sirius set up form another NAM member who posted it in the marketplace and then even helped me install it...I have had Xm in another car using the FM modulation route, and I gotta say it was less than great...the sonic qulaity is lame and the second display looks hokey...If you reallyc ar about how the car looks, and how the digital radio sounds--you really need to do it the clean, factory way...The biggest issue for me was the sonic quality and it wasnt worth installing in my MCS if ti didnt look and sound great...my .02

I had the SoundGate Sirius adapter put in my MCS '04 and I must say the improvement in sound quality is outstanding. I do have a problem with the static that the system seems to be picking up through some unknown way. The place where the system was installed has replaced all the components of the Sirius system but they can't figure out what is going on. Even Sound Gate can't figure it out. Originally they thought it was agrounding problem but that has been corrected and the problem persists. Has anyone had this kind of problem? Any thoughts?
