You make a very interesting suggestion, and I'll give it a try. At this point I don't have much to loose.

Of course, I'll let you know how it turns out.
I read somewhere but can not find it now (so many threads on this subject) where someone had it working with out the Mini Voice tags. I am not sure what version of phone software they were running, or hwat version of software the Mini had.

Try it and see if it works. If it does great. if it does not try this to see what happens.

1. Pick 5 random numbers from the local phone book and program those into the Mini voice tags. Make sure none of these are in you phonebook.

2. see if they work.

3. Then add one from you phone book and see if it continues to work.

My suspicion is that if it did not work after this then you have the same problem i am having where the phone voice dial screws up the Mini Voice tags.

I don't think anybody has problems with Blackberrys (I don't). I have to enter my voice dial numbers myself, but honestly I would rather do that (easy to do) than have the software try and sort through all the names in my phone's address book. Plus you can customize names if you do it yourself (Make Mark Clubman into "Clubby")

Yep, all of the Curves are reported to work. It looks like cars with Nav do the automatic voice tags based on the address book (and don't do manual tags) and cars without Nav need the voice tags and phone number to be added with the MINI.

Any help would and will be most appreciated.
Hi fellow week 32er! Rtwerk, I've got the gen1 iphone too and no nav system. Had to create the voice tags verbally even though my address book transferred over.

I'm not sure if you're doing this, but: I can't jump right into "Dial Joe"....
FIRST I have to hit the button and say "Dial Name",
then it asks for the name and then I say "Dial Joe",
Then the car asks "Do you want to dial 'Joe'?" and I say "Yes"

If I just hit the button and say "Dial Joe" it can't handle it... have to actually say "dial Name" first

FWIW, in the '09 MCS (with Nav, at least), the entire sync'd phone book from my phone (iPhone 3G) is voice enabled. No recording of voice tags, no special procedures. Just say "Call {name}" or "Call {name} at {location}" and it works. Tried it on a random sampling of about 20 contacts from my iPhone (people, companies, etc.) and it worked flawlessly on all of them.

Of course, this may be a software update for the '09's or it could be that having Nav enables this or even that it's a combination of '09, Nav and a compatible phone (iPhone 3G in this case), but it works for me!

Try saying "Call Joe" instead. Not sure if it matters, but I always use "Call" and then a name from my Razr's phone book.

For car WITH-OUT NAV The voice dialing is VERY VERY VERY specific as to what needs to be said and in what order.

Car WITH NAV are much more forgiving as to what needs to be said.

It all has to do with the programing and why they can not get it working on the NON NAV cars is beyond me.

Also in NON NAV cars voice dialing changes depending on the phone type as well. I have a Motorola E-815 and i find the following problems.

1. If the name or number i try to put in the voice tag is in the contact list then it will not work. It fails miserably.

2. Using a Friends Razor I do not have the above problem.

Both phone use the same bluetooth software just different versions. Can this be the problem? Yes it can but i can not get the same Version as the Razor has to work on my phone so there may also be a hardware difference.

Probably the fact that the old Razor was on Mini's approved list. Could be only those on the list support all the features like voice dialing without any setup. But no proof. Everyone's experiences with voice dialing seems to vary a bunch.
