Navigation & Audio Aux input whine
Aux input whine
OK, I'm not as good at sound as I am at other parts of the car( some would argue I'm an idiot at everything) but have an audio noob question.
I did a search for this and found something about a PAC Noise filter and hope this would work but wonder if I did something else wrong?
I have XM connected through the CD input in the back of the car, 05 Cab, and the Aux input obviously at the head unit. I have an iPhone dock integrated into one of the cupholders, with the 3.5mm cable out of the line out of the back of the iPhone dock into the aux input. I also have the flat blade connector for the iPhone dock connected to a 12V adapter plugged into a add-on cig lighter all stuffed up in the center console. I know, not the best of wiring practices. The cig adapter is off a tap a fuse in the fuse block.
Now the problem, yes I have a very slight whine when music is playing, but with the top down and the music cranked it doesn't matter. Its when the phone rings, and I pick it up out of the cradle to talk, the whine is horribly loud. I have to turn the volume to min to stop it. I know not a major problem but very annoying, and I always seem to forget to turn it down before I pick the phone up out of the cradle. Is the Pac adapter the solution or my ghetto wiring to blame. Oh wise sound guru's please help out with some advise.

I had the same problem - iPhone wired to the cupholder (except I'm using the OEM iPod adapter instead of aux). I was getting this nifty superchargeresque whine out of the speakers when I accelerated.
So yesterday I dismantled the whole thing at the recommendation of a friend
and there was a crimp in the line where a tight turn was causing a rub against the line and must have been causing a short, thus the noise/interference.
I actually have a DICElink coming, so I just wrapped the spot extra-heavy with electrical tape and put it all back together for now until the DICE gets here.
My guess is you either have something similar, or possibly a loose connection with the aux.

First, thanks for the response. I thought it might be something like that. I've got so much cable tie wrapped together and stuffed in there the lower flap barely closes
I will probably have to take it all out and wiggle it around while I'm on the AUX input and see if I can get the sound to change, if it doesn't I'll need to get the filter. Does make a a nice secondary supercharger whine though.
So being an audio rookie, does the DICE unit allow me to use the MFSW controls to control tracks in the iPhone? Everything works pretty well now except that I have to hit the >>I button to skip a track I don't want to hear. Otherwise it's great.
Thanks again.
Jeff

It does, and it also allows you to use the iPhone controls on the phone, which the OEM iPod adapter does not allow - it's MFSW or nothing. And it shows the track information on the HU in 05+ units.
The main advantage to the aux is it's flexibility...you can use it with a lot of different things. The iPod adapters are, of course, Apple-specific.

Well since I don't have any other MP3 units, that may work well. I'll have to think about it. I do have to get to that whine though. It will get done right behind the;
Rear brake bushing install
Rear braided line install
Lower poly engine mount install
Buff entire car (Black is the best and the worst)
Install new methanol controller.............
It never ends.
Thanks for the help.
