Questions About iPod Interface/GPS

Hi,

I've had the iPod interface since delivery almost two years ago. I like it, but one thing that's always bugged me is that I can only use 5 playlists. (MINI1, MINI2, MINI3, MINI4, MINI5) I'd like to have access to the entire iPod. It would also be nice to be able to see the title of what I'm listening to..(I have a lot of classical music on my iPod, and It's not always obvious what I'm listening to...I'd just like to know...no big deal really) Are there any kind of software downloads that would allow this to happen?...or at least one of them to happen?

My other question is about my GPS. I've had it mounted in my window for quite some time. It's kind of annoying during the summer, because I like to put my sun shade in the window during the day...which means I have to take the GPS mount down two to three times a day. So, I made my own mount...looks pretty cool. The only thing is that when is was in the window I had the cable run through the dash down to the socket in front of the shifter. Now that I've moved it there's no way to do this. I'm somewhat ****, and I don't like wires running around out in the open. I was wondering if anyone out there has hardwired a GPS directly into the system?(on an R53) Or maybe if there's a thread on this already? I looked, but I couldn't find one myself. I did find one for the R56 though...not sure how similar they are.

Thank you for any help.

Seth

There's no update for the OEM iPod adapter, but if you go with the ICE link (EAS carries it, and they're in the NAM vendor directory), that will probably be the best bet. If your head unit is new enough ('05-ish or later), it will display track information from the iPod, and you can browse your iPod while it's connected, rather that it being locked out while connected like it is with the OEM adapter.

If you remove all of the playlists from your iPod, it will just play through the entire songlist.

At least, mine does.

Alternatively, you can do the same thing without having to remove all of your playlists. Preset buttons "1" through "5" on the radio correspond to playlists "MINI1" through "MINI5" on the iPod, but preset button "6" will play the entire contents of the iPod.

Also, the playlist names corresponding to presets "1" though "5" only have to *start* with "MINI1", "MINI2", "MINI3", etcetera - they can be longer. This lets you be a little more descriptive with your playlist names if you'd like.

Right now, I have playlist titles in iTunes with names like "MINI1 - Mark Knopfler", "MINI2 - I Am Legend" (an audiobook), "MINI3 - Pendleton Trip", etcetera. If I want to take a playlist out of rotation in the car without deleting it entirely, I just replace the number in the playlist name with an "X", like "MINIX - Mark Knopfler". That lets me create another playlist starting with "MINI1" to use in the car. In fact, almost all of my playlists in iTunes start with "MINIX" - that way, I can quickly pick playlists to use in the car by replacing the "X" in the playlist names with the numbers 1-5 on five of the playlists and then synching my iPod.

This is a great idea.

How Safe Is This?

Does anyone know how safe this is?

Dual accessory cigarette adapter for MINI Cooper

I had someone tell me that it's not good for a car to have something plugged in all the time. Is that true? Can this hurt anything?

Thank you,

Seth
