TomTom GPS Mount

I received a TomTom 910 as a gift over the winter and finally figured out what to do with it. I personally like Garmin units, but this one was free so I thought I had better find a use for it.
I'm not a huge fan of things hanging off my dash or windshield. I have a ScanGauge on the dash and it's not my favorite location.
That in mind I wanted to put the navi under the dash where the cupholders are. I figured it would be out stealthy and yet functional under there. TomTom has an odd way of powering the unit through the mount, so I had to use the stock mount in some fashion. I was ready to hack up a mount if I had to when I had one of those "lightbulb" moments.

All I needed was the factory windshield mount, 1 foot of hook and loop, 1 12v radio shack power supply, and about 10 minutes.

First shot is the factory windshield mount with hook and loop attached in an X pattern. Then fasten it to the plastic kick panel under the center console. (towards firewall) The hook and loop sticks great as long as you clean everything first. I also put one strip of hook and loop on the front of the unit to keep it from rocking.

The unit is powered by tapping into the fuse panel with an "add a fuse" and using a 12V power adapter (cig lighter) All that is hidden up under the dash. (sorry no pic)

That was it. Results are a unit that fits under the dash well. Both the passenger and driver can use the touch screen easily and see it from all angles. I can also use the cupholders... not that they are useful there anyhow.

No problem with reception? Or did you fit an antenna somewhere too?

I was concerned about reception, but have had zero issues. In fact I'm running 5 bars (max) most of the time and 4 bars every once in a while. I was surprised and happy.

Nice, now you need to download the Ozzy voice so he can tell you "f***in left turn ahead"
