Possible To Have A Windshield Projector?

Hi Guys, I've seen the latest BMW models having most of the information projected on the windsheild. See the picture below:

I would love to know if a similar product can be installed on my MINI to give myself a feeling of a luxuary car!!!

Google for GlobalTop HG-100. Saw it on sale for $70-88. I'm interested, but worried if it might attract attention from car thieves.

Here's a project for you...

find a wrecked BMW and see if the unit can be hacked into the Mini. Same information busses, probably a bit of work but what the hay!

Most of the aftermarket ones use a screen to project onto cause they don't know the curvature or the distance to the windshield.

I did not like this projectot at all. It's GPS based so it will not be so accurate, it's using the lighter so a lot of cables and the power source will always be busy. Also, I'm not sure if the GPS function will work or not. It acts as a GPS receiver and you have to look for a compatible GPS software and handheld device.

It's a headache and might not work as planned.

Sorry but GPS speed displays are more accurate than any car speedo as those always under-read by at least 5%.

GPS will be more accurate than the mini's speedo, though possibly less responsive. In the video below, notice that the speed doesn't register until 5mph but then it seems responsive and smooth. At speeds less than 5mph it must be hard to calculate speed with GPS since accuracy at best is around 10 feet usually. Also one review mentioned it takes about 30 seconds cold start to pick up sat signals.

It does works alone without software or a handheld device. The bluetooth is an extra feature if you want to communicate the speed and direction info to a PDA. If I got it, I would hardwire it to the fusebox so it doesn't occupy the cig adapter and the wires stay tucked away and hidden.

I'm just trying to convince you so someone can get it and tell me if it's any good or not.

This is niiiiiiiiiiiiice as far as a speedo meter. This device is a GPS receiver, means that it needs another device to display the direction on a stored map.

This thing is good but it's far too simple than I wanted.

Got a used Navalert, red light and speed camera detector via GPS database. Not really a windshield projector, but kind of a HUD. At least now I now my real speed vs. my speedo which is 10% off.
