Nope. That's why I always encourage people to ignore Step 5 in the configurator and make sure they get everything they think they would ever want in Steps 1-4.

Steps 1-4 = factory options
Step 5 = dealer-installed options

There are a few factory options that the dealer can retrofit for you, but not many. It's best to ignore Step 5 until after you have the car, because the dealer will always be available for them later! Maximize your initial purchase dollar on the "one shot deal" factory options!

I just wish we could get a British voice. Maybe they have a whole different phrase for flipping a uey.
I'd pay for a female w/ a cockney accent that oozes sass.

Even the British cars get an American accent now- we got it before with the 1st gen systems by taking the voice files from the British disk and coping them to the US.

As far as I know, that's only for first-generation cars. Their navigation systems came with different voices; they were made to recognize the country the car was being sold in. However, someone figured out how to hack into the system and bring up the British voice for U.S. owners.

My understanding for the R56 is that there is only one English voice. People in Britain hear the same boring voice that we do. I haven't heard of anyone finding a solution, yet.

Coming over from the R53 side, the only reason I got Nav was cause of the look, I liked how it looked, I don't travel far much so I don't really need the Nav but it comes in handy at times

Ya it is cool to have both the tach and the speedo right on the column... don't know what other mini owners have to go through looking 2 feet to the right for their speedometer...

my reasons for ordering:

*I'm paranoid and after reading about the portable ones being the most stolen items, it became a no brainer for me, When I worked in Phila. I got my crappy car broken into a half a dozen time s at least with nothing out but I stupidly had the glove box closed.

*The look

*The integration with everything

I definitely saw a thread talking about hacking both british voices, I'll keep looking.

Well, this whole thread just made me feel a bit better about my navigation purchase. I just purchased a MCSa, fully loaded, and I was telling myself, "Well, I love to keep my vehicles, and if I keep it for a decade (no joke), I don't want any regrets."

Hopefully all goes excellent.

My car was loaded as well. I just missed getting the PDC though. Only option I wish I had picked. Mainly for the nice graphic on the nav screen. One of these days I'll check my dealer and see if they can install that later. Doesn't look too involved, just a few parts to change.

Nav iPod Interface

Could someone let me know how does the NAV interface works with the iPod integration kit? Is it possible to navigate the playlists, songs, etc from the LCD screen? Would someone be kind enough to post some pictures of the iPod interface in the NAV screen?

Thank you!

The new nav system looks a lot easier to work with than the one I have in my R53. With mine, I have to turn that stupid little **** so much that, a few days ago, it just fell off. It's no big deal though. I just shoved it back on and surprisingly it feels pretty secure.

Looks like someone already got to the picts... It works pretty well. If you have a ton of playlists it may take a while to rotate the **** to your selection.

But even with that I think it's great. Note that I have a Clubman with the convenience package, etc. I've heard other stories that weren't as good, so YMMV if you're getting a different model (there are a ton of threads around here for that).

You can choose random play within a list, etc.

FYI, it'll also play MP3 disks and retain the song listings, etc.

after finally getting my nav, attached to my brand new MINI, I'd have to say its totally up to you if you feel a nav is a must, but I must say I find absolutely no negatives with the factory nav! Its pretty damn nice

The only negative for me was the price. I had to think long and hard about that. But I'm glad that I bought it.

for me the auto ac was part of the premium package which was basically free b/c I got wanted a sunroof and hi fi audio. I'm not sure it comes as part of the premium package with the 09's though.

Driving a loaner MCa without the Nav since last Thursday has confirmed that we did the right thing in including the Nav in our order.

Nav - not strictly required, but very, very desirable.
