Factory CD changer compatibility

Hello guys, wondering about something. I have a factory cd changer, which as far as i know is Alpine. If i install an Alpine headunit, will the cd changer work with it? Is the jack the same? MP3s are good, but i like the quality of the audio cds sometimes! Has anybody done it/tried it?

So I take it you have the OEM tape player, and not the CD?
Any reason you wouldn't just load the CD changer with the audio CDs?

Can't definitively answer your question, but the IntraveeII uses an Alpine KCA-420i to 'translate' info from the ipod to the head unit via the CD changer cables, so it's likely that it will work.

In the US we only have the 'Boost' system, so not sure if things are different over there.

(same answer posted in the other forum)

Hello. Sorry if i didn't make my point clear I have the OEM wave tape player, with the factory cd changer. I want to have the ability to play MP3s as well, and change the disc instantly, access to the cd changer is not the same! So, knowing that the cd changer is Alpine, i would like to know if i can replace the headunit with an Alpine one, and connect to that the factory cd changer. I want to keep the cd changer because i like the quality of the CD. What do you think?

The OEM CD player is also made by Alpine, and may be a cheaper (and definitely plug and play) solution.
In the US the '05+ head units go for $100-$150 (about 12 Euro )

The wiring to the CD changer all runs through the stock connector, so at worst case you can reconfigure it to work with an aftermarket Alpine. I would assume they speak the same 'language'.

Yes, its an OLD Alpine CD changer, and your answer is yes it will work.

I am installing the Alpine IDA-X001 and I am expecting it to work.

I think the unit was $450 My post is just below. I am replacing everything but keeping the Cd changer. I was pleased to see my I-Phone work wonderfully with this headunit.
