Alpine IDA-X001, speakers & amps

Any thoughts on this headunit? We connected my I-Phone to it and it displayed all my music -- blue tooth as well. No more CD's floating around my car (I like that!) I might keep the stock 6 disc Changer -- the installer said it should work with this head unit. I am jsut not sure I see a need for it.

Diamond component speakers might be going in rather than the focals....not 100% yet -- any thought's on speakers would be appreciated.

To save space I am going to use the Memphis Belle 1000 x 1 & 75 x 4. A 5 channel do it all amp. the Sub woofer is the Solo Baric 12" L5 square -- should be more than enough to fill my Mini with decent sound.

I like the X001 - but I still need a CD slot occasionally. That's what put me off buying it.

I know I hear ya. But I figure I am always ruining my CD's in my car. I figure between the I-Phone, flash drive and the 6 CD changer I should be covered.

Are there any alternatives you have found that have the same features plus a CD?

Sadly, no. But iPod functionality across all aftermarket HUs is steadily improving - it's just no-one has mimicked the display like on this one.
What most interested me was the A...Z selection feature; don't know another HU that offers that.

Nice, I just read your thread - I like the looks of that head unit in your car. I am sold on the headunit 100%. I am usually a Focal speaker type of a guy, Diamonds sound good and all and are slightly cheaper at $800 to outfit the front and back. The Memphis Belle I am also new to (I have never used an all in one amp).

I didn't want to drop a box in the back as you did - did you bolt it down or does it rock around? I am thinking of fabricating a fiberglass housing for the Solo Baric, not sold yet.

I have particular tastes in bass, hence I went for a big box/sub that caters to that... but to each his/her own. The box has two small L-brackets (one on the side), and I have a short wood screw on each used to attach it to the false floor. Not super strong, but enough to keep it from rocking back and forth.
