Which Amp To Get?

I am looking for a new sub-amp for my car. I need something small (in size) between 300 and 500 watt range. Currently, I am looking at a JL Audio A1400 or a Memphis MCD500. Has anyone had any experience with the amps. Also, any other amps suggestions would be great. Thanks...

I was looking at the new Alpine PDX-5. 75w x 4 + 300w x 1. The best thing about it is that it is only 10 3/16" x 2 1/2" x 8 7/8" (0.13 cu.ft.). Awesome for the Mini. I'm putting it with a Kenwood KFC-XW1000F shallow mount 10". Whole system will fit in the under floor rear pocket in the Clubman and still leave half of it empty. Now, if Alpine would release them to my dealer so I could buy one I would be happy.

Re-reading your post I see that you are looking for just a sub amp. Check out the PDX-1.600 (600w) or the PDX-1.1000 (1000w). All of the PDX amps are the same size and are stackable. Thats 5 inches for two on top of each other.

A Nice Punch

The Alpine amp has a nice small foot print with good power. I wonder how hot it runs because it will be in an enclosed box.

For size, I plan on going with this one:
Sony XM-4S

Well, I know it is one of those newer Digital amps. So that should make it somewhat cooler than an older analog amp. Also, it must deal with heat pretty well if it is designed from the start to stack several units high.

Img from Alpine.

Edit: Here is a review of the 4 x 150w version of the Alpine amp. Pretty glowing review I think.

That will do nicely, I might think of that one if I was just replacing my speakers and not doing a sub. My issue with it is that it is only a 4 channel. I will be running at least 5 channels in the system I am making. For that, I will trade two inches in width and an inch in height for a 200% RMS power increase with a dedicated sub channel rather than having to get a second amp.

I'm running a PDX 4.100 installed in the tool well in the boot. It barely gets warm, even when I ran it for 5 hours straight. I really like this amp.

PGT, how much space is there under the passanger seat? I was thinking a pdx from alpine, but I saw the price, and now i'm wondering how big of a space is really there. I just remember seeing some of your pictures.

I currently have a JL Audio A1400. The amp offers great power for the money. My sub-woofer hits hard and the amp stays cool.
