Only see streets on the Mark III Nav system

Hello everyone! Has anyone else run into the problem where the nav system only shows highways and not streets on the map view? I've been looking around the forum for an answer for this question. Most likely it is just a setting problem, but the navigation manual doesn't seem to have this info. I'm suprised that I don't see the streets as I live in a large city Overland Park, KS. I've also taken a trip down I-35 to Wichita, KS. On this trip, the nav system showed the names of cities as I went through them, but never a street. A few facts:

I've got a 2002 MCS, new to me 1 month ago (great car!).
I'm using the CD based nav system (a.k.a. Mark III system)
The navigation system has the latest compatible software (SW 3-1/63)
I'm using the latest set of Navteq map CDs (2007.2)
Don't know if it matters, but have the base audio system and currently the front speakers are blown. I've tested the connections with a good speaker and do get signal from all (I believe this is where the navigation audio signal comes from, correct me if I'm wrong please.)

I appreciate any help or insight you all can offer.
Any ideas?

Hmmm - first thought is that it's not reading the CD and just using the 'base map'. Did you buy the 2007 CD or did it come with it? Have you checked that the CD is for the right region? There are 7 IIRC.

FWIW - if you're interested in a set of OEM speakers let me know.

Are you zoomed down to 800 ft or 400 ft? Street names are displayed only at those levels.

There could be a few reasons...
  1. If you are using the wrong CD for your region, then the streets aren't shown
  2. If you are not zoomed in enough, then the streets aren't shown.
Hope that helps

It was the wrong map CD and the zoom, thank you everyone!

Well, thanks for the help! The disc and the zoom was definitely the problem. I live in the Midwest, so I put initially inserted disc # 5 "Midwest and the Ohio Valley". Your right Eric, it was just reading the "Base Map". The dealership here in town (Baron Mini) had just installed a remanufactured computer (paid for by the previous owner I believe) and a full set of discs. It turns out I just needed disc # 3, "North Central". Apparently, Kansas has been reclassified as a North Central state . In any case, after zooming in (thanks rkw and Scott!) now I'm seeing the streets/shopping malls and names! Who knew it could be that simple? Oh wait, you guys did .

Eric, I've got a new set of Polk Momos MMC6500s going into the car, but thanks anyways on the OEM speakers ...

Was I right about the nav voice going to the front channels? Right now, as only the rear 6x9s are working, so all I "hear" is a decrease in volume when approaching a turn.

Basically, I'm hoping to figure that out before I gut the car to install new speakers/subwoofer(s) and of course amplifiers. I'd hate to have it all put back together only to find out I still don't have the audio signal. In any case, I appreciate the previous help.
