Nav system discrepancy?

Hello,

I have a 2004 MC with the MKIV Nav system, the firmware version is 4.1-50 (that may not be the right way it's written, but the number ends in "50" in any case). I was wondering if anyone else had this same experience. While the map disc I have isn't completely up to date by any stretch, it has many (usually rural) roads that it shows, but that the computer doesn't recognize when giving directions. If it's giving me directions and I go on one of these roads, I get the "you are not on a digitized road' message and it shows "correct dest. guidance not possible" on the screen. Why would they bother to put these roads on the map, but not in the database for use in directions? Would an upgrade in firmware or a new map disc perhaps correct the discrepancy?

Mind you, I'm not really frustrated with this, but I was just wondering why?

Apparently the map is analog.

I've run into the same thing. The map disk is GIGO - it thinks the road my mom lives on (out in the country) is a nearby road.
IMO it's the map disc, not the firmware that is the issue.

But if you do want to upgrade your firmware, you can get Zip code input options, perspective mode, and faster searching.
