Any of the Garmin Nuvi's are fantastic. I've had a 350 for a couple years now and love it. Costco is selling the 360 for $249 (for another week or so) which is the 350 with Bluetooth. For me it was $279 after tax and shipping. I decided to upgrade to the 360.

I've picked up a 750. Any good recommendations on mounting one of these in the Mini (removable, I bought it mostly for my business travel).

 

I was salivating over the 760 but settled for the 680 fro $480 at Costco last month to replace my stolen 660.

The Garmin NUVIs have been very solid performers. If only my 660 was stolen this month.

 

I'm mounting my new 750 with the Kuda dash mount... they make that one and a downtube version for the R50-53 and an R56 version as well.

It's expensive (about $100 out the door), but is one of the best looking mounts IMHO... I hate fussy clamps and flex pipes stretching everywhere.

 

Same here. The dash mount looks like what I'd like. (And I'm looking for something similar for my Tacoma).

I've been very happy with my Kuda mounted Nuvi just to the left of the speedo. I can reach the screen with my hand on the steering wheel easily. I can keep my eyes on an unobstructed view of the road while glancing at it. Also the proximity makes the speaker phone more usable and tolerable for others, although the internal speaker is still too quiet.

Regarding the $513.95 with 2 day shipping deal from thenerds.net.... well it came today and it works great! The price was much lower than found at other websites. You can find it for $479 on another site if you do a google search... however if you do a BBB.org search on the company... they have a really bad rep with the BBB. Thenerds.net came through!

Costco.com had the 750 for around 300 recently. I think the 760 will be similarly priced in a month or two, thanks to the economy.

 

Costco had the 200W for $199...that's what I did on a Kuda mount. After having a $650 c340, I don't know why people need more (unless you need the Bluetooth, traffic, etc).

 

Actually, if you don't have one of the newer Nuvis like the 700 series, sometimes the c340 is better (route management, for example). I had a 650 that I only prefered for travelling due to it's size... the 750 is waaaay nicer (route support added back in, automatic arranging of destinations for most efficient travel, etc).

 

:dunno: the 200W works great for me, though I generally hate most NAV's. While in Philly at Helix, Jan from RMW and I took Eric's M3 to round up lunch, looking for the Wawa we'd been to the day before (with someone else driving). The NAV ended up taking us all over the place, into some bad neighborhoods, and we finally ended up at a Wawa, but not the one we wanted. Had I been smart and actually listened to Eric's directions, we'd have been there in back in 15 minutes.

Same thing two years ago at MOTD....we drove west towards Knoxville and wanted to cut north through Gatlinburg back to I-40E (we were staying in Asheville). We ended up getting routed through Knoxville into Fri night rush hour traffic, only to fight it all the way out to Gatlinburg. Meh. I could have done much better with 10 seconds of looking at a map.

 

I just bought the 200W from Costco. Although I prefer one which has the ability to use routes (like all of my previous GPS systems), the price could not be beat and I simply don't want a bunch of non-navigational crap lke MP3 players, bluetooth, etc to double or triple the cost.

The 200W has the same wide screen and sensitive receiver as the more expensive units.

When I specifically need to follow a route I pre-planned on the computer, I will just drive with my routing version alongside my pretty new Nuvi. .

Usually I pre-plan drives very carefully on paper maps and turn-by-turn instructions. I borrowed my brother-in-law's Nuvi 360 on the last club run that I was leading and LOVED having an exact fix on where I was all the time to help with using the maps.

I can't wait to pick up the Nuvi 750 with route planning (10 routes to be held in storage) today at UPS!

I got the R53 Kuda dash mount. It is SPECTACULAR!!! Matches the dash nicely and really snaps into place firmly. Much better than the windshield mount!

 

Anyone used this mount that has the Chrono pack? I think there's enough room, but it would be nice to be sure.

Nice routing of the cord. I'm thinking of doing something very similar, but I don't plan on leaving the nav installed all of the time... just for road trips and club drives. I'm going to cut the cord and attach a 12v power male adaptor plug to it. I'll mount a 'panel mount' female outlet on the dash, just above and to the left of the spedo, so it will be easy to plug in but won't have a cord dangling the other 98% of the time that the Nav isn't installed.



But what if you want to move it to another car, you ask? You install one of these on the remaining bit of the cord that attaches to the cigarette lighter plug...

 

Wow, so you guys missed the announcement last week about the Nuvi 660 on sale at Amazon for $349? I bought one for my wife's Audi a year ago from Best Buy and paid twice that, but I wanted my own for the MINI......

 

The Nuvi's power cord attaches to the mount, not the GPS unit. There is no free dangling cord when the GPS is removed from the quick-release mount. The older Nuvi's have the power cord coming from the bottom which looks a little more stealth. Others have drilled a hole in the Kuda mount for the power cord I believe. I leave the mount on all the time. Very convenient to attach the Nuvi, unlike other GPS units that you have to connect the power cord seperately.

 

Another nice install... but where does the cord go? Right now I see it head down the crevice between the air vent and the speedo, going toward the start button. I'm trying to avoid this cord hanging loose if I can. If you drill a hole in the dash, wouldn't the plug be sticking out from it if you remove the mount and GPS unit?

 

For you guys with the 600 series and 700 series...I saw this bad dog add on at CES this year...MSN Direct. Do a search...has these cool features for you guys...unfortunately, I have a Nuvi 270...no workie.

 

The cord goes behind the driver dash trim piece as described in my install (click on my signature link). You're right about the plug sticking out. I just meant I always keep the mount on. Maybe not smart with car thefts happening. I did have my GPS stolen when I left it mounted on a busy street. If someone breaks in and searches the glove compartment for my unmounted GPS, I will have to change my ways.

 

I also got the 360 from Costco. Really like the Bluetooth. Today I was showing it to the guys at work, and the first call came in. It was cool talking thru the GPS. I also have a Street Pilot III with a sandbag mount. I can't use it in the MINI, because it refuses to stay on the dash! The SPIII has more features, but the 360 is a lot more handy.
