All in one stereo

Currently I have a 2004 Mini Cooper S JCW with default factory stereo, with a six disc CD changer, no Harman Kardon. After reading all about Mini stereos I think I have came up with a plan but I need some reaffirmation from my fellow Mini savant's. All I want is to have my head unit play MP3's, Have Sirius, and be able to plug my iPod in when needed power not an issue. The plan is to get my hands on a 2005 Mini Cooper OEM head unit or Maybe what they call on European Auto Source the Radio Boost Upgrade. Supposedly this model was the first to play MP3 cd's, which takes that off my wish list. Second find the OEM Sirius unit and mount it were the CD changer is. This is were I have a question any idea or information on a part number I can reference when looking for this particular part? Last get the AUX kit so that I can plug My iPod in when I want to. This is my plan any one's help or information is welcome. I wait with baited breath to hear something. Thanks

Personally, I'd look at an aftermarket unit that would do everything you are asking. I found a few Pioneer, Alpine, etc... for under $200 at places such as www.onlinecarstereo.com that had MP3, aux-in, ipod adapter, satellite ready, etc... Plus, you'll get better sound, and have a head unit ready to add other options should you desire later on (subwoofer). I think it would be easier (and not much more expensive) to do that than to source out the parts you are looking for. Good luck with whichever route you take!

alot of the sirius units can connect to aux inputs . it wouldn't be quite as "clean" of an install but can still be done very nicely, and would save some time and money.

The OEM solutions will always cost more and have less features than the aftermarket... so you need to decide what's more important to you - a "stealth" install using official parts? Or the extra features & lower prices of aftermarket?

For my other car, I went aftermarket, and I was happy. For this car, I went OEM (and I'm still going OEM... a long, long way... see my signature heh), and I'm happy with that decision. Different strokes for different folks - decide for yourself what your priorities are.

Thanks for everyone's input, after reading a whole bunch, pulling out hand fulls of hair, and a very helpful e-mail from edge I think I'm going to go the expensive route OEM because of the clean look. I'm going to be giving European Auto Source some serious cash, thank goodness it is tax return time. I am going to order the factory upgrade unit which is a big gulp $599.00 for the ability to play MP3 cd's, the OEM Sirius satellite radio $575.00, and last but not least the Dice iPod integration kit $149.00 with the Dice iPod/Sirius interface cable $20.00. At least I will save on installation costs. I think this is going to be the best way. I am still going to go to the local car stereo place here in Springfield but if they but if I don't like what they have to say, I'd rather drop the cash and make it look stock and clean.

Many people will call you crazy for spending the money - I know I'm already considered certifiably insane for my OEM habit. Heh.

Keep in mind that if you still decide to stay on the OEM route you might be able to save a bunch with used parts too. Check the Marketplace.

+1
Put a WTB in Marketplace offering $200 (or even $150) and you'll find people begging you to take their MP3 capable HU.
