Experience with the E46 sun roof would suggest that overriding the standard open and close mechanism is not possible over the iBus. However the Mini may be different. At a minimum it will require logging of the iBus (an possibly main vehicle bus) commands sent by INPA when operating the sun roof via the test procedures in INPA.

The R52 roof module is the same one as the E85 if that makes a difference. Next time I'm plugged in I'll capture a log.

Try taking a log, but I'd expect no roof control commands in it. The only likely source of commands will be to connect INPA to the diagnostic port and log any roof commands issued from that.

Reviving this thread. Has anybody performed the mod to allow the ipod to become active when starting the vehicle?

It's not hard if you have a steady hand, a good soldering iron and use single strand Kynar wire, often sold as Modding wire.

Yeah, but I dont wanna chance ruining the alpine unit. I'd rather have piece of mind paying somebody who has sucessfully done it before.

Any small electronics repair shop would be able to do it for you given the instructions.
