I don't know about you, but not only did I test drive a Mini, I spent some time using the Nav system before I changed my order to have it added. Maybe you should have too?

No update Birdman? I haven't heard from my dealer about any fixes for this either. Since the Clubman nav has the same issue, I think it's time to lock the thread. It's not getting fixed.

ok i thought i wanted navigation because on my honda civic ex, i have navigation and its awesome. i could tell it to go from my home address to any other address (or search for something in a category, like a mcdonalds in the restaurant category). then if i wanted to go to an ATM machine, i click waypoint, and put in the address or the name of where i want to go on the way.

does this navigation system not have these features?

has the 08 version gotten better than the 07 version? why dont you guys like it?

It has all those features. However some POI's are very hard to find. Before you can locate one by name or in the database, you have to first pick a category. Sometimes it's very difficult to figure out which category stuff is in. For restaurants, banks, etc it's fairly easy but many things aren't that easy.

Yeah, your best bet is to just use the address if you can get it.

I couldn't find the manufacturer for the Honda Nav systems, but I'd guess it's navteq (jsut a guess).

One thing you may notice is that the MINI nav is not voice activated, unless they've added that in more recent years. I love my nav and I use it ALOT (I'm currently between jobs and using it to deliver pizzas aka getting paid to drive my car).

The 2nd gen Nav is voice activated, meaning you can program new destinations using voice.

Alpine makes Honda / Acura. NavTeq is a map data supplier to hardware vendors.

I recently was offered a TomTom XL by my less than 'techie' parents. Why they bouht it I don't know - they go from their house to the grocery store and back. Sometimes to the local mall. And even more infrequently from Florida to Indiana.

So here I am - using the TomTom to define trips for work around the state of Indiana and haven't had any major problems - as yet. I am waiting for my downloaded voices of Austin Powers and Darth Vader to finally give up when I try and get lost by going exactly the opposite way suggested

One thing I do like about it is that I can define the trips and save them at my desk. Once in the car, I can then call up the trip and away we go!

Oh and one other thing I do like is the ability to add my own POIs and make a category for them.

Is there a monthly charge for the in dash nav unit for the mini?

if you use point to point, on the in dash nav, and you choose to make an early turn, or go a different road, doesn't the nav compensate for this and still get you to your destination? I'm new to navs but went on vacation with some friends a few weeks ago and the driver had a garmin tha compensated if you chose a different road or missed a turn.

for some levity on the poi problem, just get an iphone! The poi works great for the maps;D

There is no monthly charge the nav unit. It auto-recalculates a route when you go off course. Very quickly too. Works very well, better than any of my Garmins as far as navigation goes.

Can you be a little more specific with respect to what they fixed and what the new software version number is? Is the POI now searchable without going through categories to search? Thanks for the update on this.

We had been warned about the Mini (Can you say "BMW Navigation") system.
Long experience with Garmin told us to stick with what we liked.
Nope the stock navi is much more then a navi dont like aftermark thing in my car

Can someone post the contents of this service bulletin? I'm very interested in seeing what it contains. Can we just download and install new firmware ourselves?

Just emailed my dealer to get info about the upgrade.

Do you know if this is considered a warranty upgrade or whether a cost is involved?

Would like to get a heads up about the features of the new software. I could restore my faith in BMW / Mini Cooper!!

Has anyone actually confirmed that this service bulletin really exists? I think we've all been through a few too many "call your service department" posts from BM to be reaching for the phone just yet...

Just spoke with my SA. Gave him the service bulletin number. He found nothing with that number, and nothing that seemed to apply to this issue.

Anyone else have better luck?

While I agree with every complaint levied against this nav system, if this is a joke there should be consequences. I emailed my dealer as well; no one likes to look like an idiot.

bump the "not cool"
