For anyone who bought the Mini aftermarket Sirius system for the R56, was there an instruction manual and installation instructions included? I received mine today and the box contained neither.

You bought the OEM system if it's from the MINI parts department - not an aftermarket. It's just not installed at the factory, but it's the same setup - albeit w/ only a year's service and not lifetime. If you've got Navigation, the instructions for use are already in your owner's manual. I'd have it installed at a dealership, since your MINI probably needs reprogramming for the Sirius.

Motoringfile.com may have instructions at some point - do a search of the site.

I said it that way just to show it wasn't the factory option, which wasn't yet available when my car made it through Oxford.

That's my hangup. My dealer is saying they won't install it because I didn't buy the parts from them. UPDATE: They reversed themselves after being assured that they were OEM parts, but from a different Mini dealer.

I had looked earlier, but couldn't find them for this year's model, yet. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

None of the dealers in my neck of the woods has given me any grief for buying OEM parts elsewhere. They charge me the recommended service install times and do the programming under warranty.

While I'm not shocked to hear about your situation, it really does suck considering these dealers make a pretty penny off of all of us that pay MSRP for our cars.

The Sirius must be installed by the dealier as it has to be programmed into the OEM radio which only the dealer can do. In addition it can fail and need reboots.... Only the dealer can do it as the have the diagnostic capability.

Wait, the radio needs reboots which only the dealer can do? So if the radio freezes (?) I have to go in for a service call? Honestly?

No, you can INSTALL IT YOURSELF, and then get the dealer to reflash your car so it recognizes it. Save some money, just take our your passenger seat and plug the box in. All the connectors are there for it. Then go to the dealer and have them reflash it, should save some cash.

After further discussion, they did agree to install the parts for me, since they were Mini parts, but just from a different dealer. In the end, they were very nice about it.

I think you have the NAV system right? If your owner's manual doesn't have anything about the SAT radio controls in it, I have posted a scanned version from my manual in this thread.

Thanks, Gary. Yes, I was looking through my manual before I took the car up to Portland and found that section. I had to go back to it today to figure out how to save the preset stations.

The system works well. I'm glad I went ahead and got it. Also thankful for the fog lights on the trip home from Portland last night.
