Navigation & Audio MCS List of blueTooth phones
Here's what I've found:
http://www.wireless4mini.com/
Although - the site looks 'official', the small print indicates it is a firm called Auto Wireless Solutions (http://getaws.com), so maybe those phones are not the full list, but only the ones they supply?

This phone should be on the infamous "Approved List"

Yes, that's the EXACT phone I had in mind. My mom used to have one of those bad boys in her Buick back when she worked for the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles. I remember showing it off to all my friends and everyone thought that it was just the coolest thing. MINI is simply stuck in a time warp is all.
"I am happy to advise you of the current compatible cell phones with MINI's Bluetooth System. The following handsets have been tested for basic functionality in the Current Generation Hardtop R56 models with factory installed Bluetooth:
Cingular Handsets:
Blackberry 8700c with software 4.1.0.194
The black & Silver Motorola RAZR-V3 with software 0E.40 9CR
SonyEricson W810i with software R4GA003
Verizon Handsets:
Blackberry 7130e with software 4.1.0.268
Motorola RAZR-V3m with software NEWC_01.05.0A
Motorola V325i with software version 01.07.00R.
Motorola E815 with software 01.17.03R
LG VX8500 with software T85VZB03
Sprint Handsets:
Blackberry 7130 with software 4.1.0.318
T-Mobile Handsets:
Blackberry 7105 with software 4.1.0.309
In addition, this list is provided for reference only. The mobile phones listed here have passed compatibility tests as of the date of testing and meet or exceed minimum standards established by MINI. The list is not a warranty for phone performance or functionality. MINI makes no guarantees or warrantees as to the performance of each phone while connected to your MINI via Bluetooth® Wireless Technology. Furthermore, software releases by MINI, the phone supplier or the wireless carrier dated after testing might alter compatibly results. While many phones are offered with Bluetooth® Wireless Technology, not all phones support the necessary profiles to work with your MINI. MINI does not guarantee availability or functionality with all wireless carriers. Functions such as synchronizing the address book and transferring a call into or out of the vehicle may function differently from phone to phone."
Hope this helps.
