I've looked at both and can't make a decision. The screen size of the One XL is better for an Old Fart like me but all my friends who have a Garmin Nuvi 350's love them. The 350 pricing appears to be coming down and the two are close in that regard. Please give me your opinions.

I think you should look into the new TomTom 720. I have not heard the greatest things about the One & the 720 is the 1st unit of the 2nd generation of TomTom's. I posted some pics of the 720 in this thread

p.s... beware of prices drastically dropping. That could mean that Garmin is about to release a new & better unit. Thats what happened to me. Right after I bought my TomTom 910 (which I really like) because the price was drastically reduced, the price went down even further & a month later they came out with the 720

I have the Tomtom and wish I had the garmin. The tomtom does not atleast the 910 does not call out street names nor verbally prep you for turns very well and I have found lots of flaws in the fashion it navigates, such as taking me miles out of the way to make uneccesary U turns. I did a side by side comparison using my Verizon cell phone and not only was the cell phone more accurate with its map but the verbal cues were so descriptive and informative I rarely needed to look at the display.

I think the Garmin is better. I had one in my rental car last week and didnt have any problems with it.

My TomTom 910 has guided me excellently thus far with very few errors. The TomTom 910 does call out street names & warns me well in advance of a turn. If you are using a human voice to direct you, you have to program the TomTom to switch to the computer voice for street names so you might wanna check how you have it programmed.

The TomTom also has an constant arrow in the lower left hand corner that indicates if your next turn is left, right, or bear left or right. My NAV voice also comes on at around a mile or 2 before a turn & says "left (or right) turn ahead" then when I get less than 1/2 mile from a turn the voice says "left turn in X-number of feet, then when I am at the turn the voice says "turn left". Sheesh, I don't think I would want it to warn me more than 3 times before a turn

I'd get the TomTom, if for no other reason than to bug Crashton.

Why would that bother me my friend?? If you want to buy a TommyTommy it's OK with me. Maybe it will help your lap times.

But, I'm not buying a GPS....

Mark I have a 350 & like it. A larger screen would be nice, but it hasn't been a problem for me. If you'd like, you can borrow it for a test drive. The prices of the 350 are coming down. I bought mine at Costo for $250 a short while ago.

How ya going to find out where the track goes if ya don't?

Next time I go to a new track, I sure as hell won't be using a pc aid. I had the most basic of atlas maps and found the track inspite of those stupid pc aid maps. If I had used my own maps, I wouldn't have wasted $120 for a "fun day" that started wayyyyyy too late for me, due to those idiotic maps.

I am definately buying a GPS, it's just between the two and so far the Nuvi 350 is ahead. I'm not going back to paper maps because based upon the miles I drive annually (50K) if I use paper maps and place them on the dash, my MINI will look like its prepped to get a paint job at Maaco

I also like my TomTom's ability to be hooked up to my computer & I can map out long, curvy MINI rides using waypoints via my mouse & computer monitor instead of having to do it on the itty bitty NAV screen. Someone said you can do this with Garmin too but you have to buy extra maps or something to get this ability. I don't know about the Garmin or the new TomTom 720 1st hand but my TomTom 910 does this for no extra charge out of the box. Oh yeah & I got to download John Cleese as my NAV voice

I often print maps off the confuser using Google. I never use their turn by turn directions though. That can really screw you up. I once knew a guy who missed a half of his track day that way. I like to look at the maps & figure directions out myself. It's fun!!!

I have a Nuvi 350 and really like it. It does everything I need it to very well, plus I was able to download a MINI splash screen and an image of a MINI that exactly matches my car that is now the icon on the maps. It's fun to see me on my GPS device!

I do like the way you can hook it to the computer, the mic and extra cords come with it, the tomtom. The garmin i think charges extra fr the mic, but it is only about 12 bucks.
My speech for street names mysteriously started working this morning right after i posted. But I still have difficulty with it being on par here in Hawaii. I think the support for in conus is probably better.

I have a NUVI 350 and I love it. Typically I turn it on, wait for it to acquire a signal, and then keep it in my ash tray (without any view outside of the car) and it never loses reception. I can't say that about my last Magellan (don't know about TomTom).

What annoyed me the most on the TomTom was it's slow as molasses rerouting. My Garmin 660 has no such problem and even keeps up with the built in nav on our R53. I suspect that the nav routing software in the Garmin is the same as the R53 (not the maps)

I got the Garmin Mini-version and have not had it installed yet. I like the portability. Yes it costs more for those Mini-icons and the Mini name on the faceplate, but it's ""only"" money...(!) Morristown Mini (online) sells them for $150 less than the other dealers.

I have the Tom Tom One AND the Garmin Nuvi 360

The Garmin was hundreds more expensive, and I still prefer the Tom Tom.

The Garmin's interface SUCKS imo..the Tom Tom is much easier to follow. And I have no problems with re-routing times like someone mentioned.
