i have an 03 MCS with HK system and was wondering if it would play mp3 discs just as it will play a regular music cd. also, if it does play mp3 discs, does it show track information?
they work in my 05. don't know about before that... does not show track info.
why don't you just put one in? if it doesnt read it, it doesnt read it, just eject.

I'm sure these will work. I have no problem at all in my MY05. It definitely doesn't show track info however.
What I DON'T like about it is this - When I use the 'Random' feature to play through songs randomly, it seems to be disabled when I start the car the next time. It doesn't seem to remember the fact that you only like listening to MP3s randomly. That's my pet peeve for the day.
A 2003 model won't read .MP3 files. 2005+ cars will play MP3s, but they don't display any ID3 information on the stereo's display.
And the "random" feature gets disabled if you even look at it crosswise. It will turn off if you shut off the car, shut off the radio, switch from disc to disc in the CD changer, or if you switch from playlist to playlist on the iPod. *Very* annoying.
Definitely not on an 03 - assuming it has the original HK head unit. But I seem to recall that there are aftermarket changers that will play MP3 Cd's, if you want to add a changer to your boot...

I feel much much better knowing that I'm not the only one annoyed at this.

My 2007 MC stock headunit does display ID3 information for mp3 files. Because the display interface has two lines for text, you can either see tracks in a "list" format (a single track per line, meaning you see two tracks at a time as you scroll through), or in a "track" format (displays title on first line, and artist information on the second line).

True, but this is the audio/navigation forum for first-generation MINIs, none of which have that ability from the factory.
