So here it is... I have found a car that I really like - except one issue:

The light level on the nav is acting like it has a short. The screen never goes blank - it seems to be the back light etc... it just flickers from bright to dim - but never off. It does this even when the cars not moving.

This is on a 03 Cooper S

Has anyone ever seen this issue?

Any ideas....

The price is right for my budget... but if I will have to replace the NAV - it will be a "no go."

Could be a loose connection, or something more ominous. I haven't heard of that issue before. May be able to address with a new screen, but I'd factor that into the price, as well as the risk of that NOT being the issue.

 

For me that would be a red flag and I'd wait for another one to come along. Also worth noting is that in mid production for the 03 they changed from the CD based nav to the DVD, if you want nav I'd strongly advise looking for one with the DVD as it is much faster.
