Stock System Upgrade on a Budget

Installed:
  • eD 6000s V.2 (6" components)
  • eD 7kV.2 (6.5" subwoofers)
  • Sony XM-4S
  • Sound Deaden mat
The components were a little bit of challenge to install seeing that they were 2.95" deep. But with the right spaces and some massaging of the door panels, they fit and sound great. Then I sounded the inside of the door panels. Next the 6.5" subwoofers fit perfectly in the 6X9" holes with some MDF spacers filling the holes. I sound deaden the cavity inside and out. Then I place polyfill to help the deep low tones. I installed the amp in the passenger side pocket and used a line converter from the stock head unit. Finally sound deaden any area on the car, I could easily laydown some material.

The sound quality very good. Not perfect, but that is the limitations of the stock headunit and line converter. I am amazed on the amount of bass from those small 6.5" speakers. They might not give that 10" subwoofer feeling, but they fill the car like a couple 10s without a problem....even with the windows rolled down. I was a skeptic buying them, but read a lot reviews on them and the Elemental Design sale people guaranteed me that I would love them. No disappoints. As for the components, they are the best components I have heard in a while. I was lookign at Polk, Infinity, MB Quart, and some lower end Focals...for $135 for a set, they were worth plenty more. The imaginging is excellent and the high are smooth.

My goal was to improve the sound quality in the car without losing the stock apperance and not breaking the pocket book. Overall, it cost me just over $500 for everthing.

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

Looks good. I've been seriously considering a pair of ED SQ10s in a custom trunk floor set up to keep most of the trunk space in my Cabrio, but since the price is so low ($70 per sub) I'm wary of the product.

I was a little skeptic of their products too, but now I am a huge believer. The 6 1/2" subs actually do what they claim they can do. They are solid and hit pretty low.

I can only imagine what the SQ10 can do.

I'm considering just doing the same as you and installing a pair of EDs in place of my rear speakers after seeing yours. I'm just not sure if the H/K amp could handle the 2 ohm load.

eD does make 2 ohm and 4 ohm subwoofers if you are looking to match the HK amp.
