Bluetooth Re-pairing takes a long time

I have the Bluetooth Prep in my car. I have paired the phone up, and can make calls, receive calls, and use my address book. But I’ve noticed that at times the mini and the phone will take 10 – 15 minutes to re-pair. In other words, the Nav system will keep saying “Searching for phone” and my phone will not indicate that the a Bluetooth Handsfree device is connected. I have a Motorola Q, and when it works, it’s great, but it just takes time for it to do so.

My friend has a BMW and a Motorola Q and he complains that it’s TOO aggressive. He could have his BMW parked in his garage and could walk into his kitchen and notice that his phone has paired with his car.

I seem to be the opposite. I walk up to the car, start it. Put the phone into the center console (no adapter, just the center armrest). I can start driving and it could take 10 minutes or so before the little antennae icon shows up on the nav system. Is there something that I might be doing wrong? Should I do something on my phone before I start the car? I have tried putting my phone into discoverable mode, to non-discoverable mode, etc, but nothing seems to consistently take.

Anyone else having issues like this? Thanks!

I found on the BMW Site that they are recommending that the Motorola Q have at least a specific version. Here's the link to the BMW Site.

http://www.bmwusa.com/owners/bluetooth/phones

"The Motorola Q, equipped with software: 01.07.05-08P, has been approved for use with BMW's equipped with BMW Assist Bluetooth, produced as of 09/05 and later."

So sure, this is BMWs, but if you read this site closely, it appears that the two systems are similar.

To check what version of the Motorola Q's Bluetooth you have, go to
Start - Bluetooth
Bluetooth Manager
Settings
Menu - About
The Software version must be at least 1.7.5 Build 0800

If you don't have that, then check to see what phone OS you are running.
Start - Settings

Phone Information

My Software Version is known as "MOL 03" which is the latest version from Motorola and is listed as:

Q2-BP_C_06.0B.11P

For more information on updating your phone check out:

You should at least be at Q2-BP_C_06.0B.0BP, which is in my opinion the most time-tested stable version of the Q's operating system. Once you are there, the first time pair up is usually pretty dead on and easy. I always use 0000 as the pair password, and it usually takes right away. (I've deleted my phone from my mini's bluetooth list multiple times and re-paired multiple times in troubleshooting my issues).

Hope that helps,
