Will we need to bring a helmet to ride on the Indianapolis Speedway? I don't have one at the moment and did not want to miss out if I need to get one. I know at fast speeds it would be necessary but thought they might have a pace car keep us at Interstate speeds.

I'm doing my first autocross tomorrow so I may get addicted and have one by then anyway!

 

Probably not on the helmet. When we done MTTS 2006 we went one lap around the track at 30 mph with a pace car. There were enough MINIs that after one lap there were still some that hadn't even gotten on the track yet. We were two cars wide all around the track. Another thing is you should get your picture taken as you cross the finish line.

 

 

NO you won't need a helmet to do the lap at Indy. It's a touring lap.

There has been an Update in the Date and Time of the Lap around the 500 Track, the Lap will now be on Monday Aug 9th at 4:30, with the lineup from 2-4pm that day. There is also going to be a BBQ afterward. This will be alot easier for everyone to leave on Tues.

Thanks for the update!! I actually have to be back at work in Alabama on Wednesday but really wanted to do this. The event being Tuesday was pushing it but now I can do it fine!!

5:00PM (after lap around track) Indy Landmark Drive to Dreyer & Reinbold MINI
6:00-8:00PM Barbecue Diner @ Dreyer & Reinbold MINI (Famous Dave's BBQ)
Tuesday August 10th
Brickyard Plaza
8:00-9:00AM Rise and Shine Rally to St. Louis, drive off 9:00 AM

 

Menu for the Dreyer & Reinbold MINI Barbecue after the lap around the IMS track will be as follows:

Pulled Pork
Pulled Chicken
Baked Beans (with a kick)
Cole Slaw
Corn Muffins
Buns for both Pork and Chicken
Iced Tea, Sweet and Unsweet
Lemonade
Fried Biscuits and Apple Butter (and Indiana favorite)

The fried Biscuits are dough ***** we just drop in a deep fryer and bam they're crispy little grease ***** full of flavor_think of them as Hush Puppies but made with flour intsead of corn meal. Yum, Yum,

can you just show up with your mini and drive the track and picnic at dryer or do you need tickets or what ?

 

No tickets needed. RSVP for the BBQ at Dreyer as posted above & if you've reg'd for MTTS you are set for the track. I doubt anybody will be turned away at the track regardless.
