8500 RPM's???
To tell you the truth...there is ALOT that no one knows about the REV limit and STOCK vaulve train because they haven't taken certain precautions....Like for instance...I belive your valve train is NOT STOCK
The reason we aren't telling people what we found out is cause we are tired of people disagreeing (not you persay ingsoc) with us over somehting that we KNOW for FACT...not cause we just went out and did a few laps "hard" but accually did the proper testing and reviewing of what happens...frankly...Deltaman shouldn't have said anything in my opinion cuase there is too much blah blah blah on the forum...and you know how I feel about that...LOL...it's just not worth it...let people rev to what ever they want...I am tired of trying to be the good guy and getting crap for it cause they like to listen to happy thoughts by whom ever...
you know what I mean we have talked about this before...that's why I use PM...if people wanna know they can ask or I'll offer...but the forum as a whole is too much speculation on answers we already have from accual testing....

teasing 8000 rpm when school finally lets out and I get to go home. I don't own any other cars with the software, so I guess we'll have to wait for a person with the stock valve springs to post, too. Fair enough.
If you truly believe that you know something important that we [people, I am in no way affiliated with my developer friend or M7!] don't know, you should probably share that information, for the good of the community. I would. My $0.02.

I realized this was a mistake as soon as I let the clutch out.
Myself personally I wouldn't rev a high RPM w/o head work. Even if the truth be known that stock heads are fine, I like to have that little warm and fuzzy inside.
That being said, MTH your NOT going to write us a program for high RPM? It seems that there are people out there requesting it. Thanks!! -- Johan

. Glad your car is ok! I think you've got a really reasonable perspecitve there, and I completely agree- I would have to seriously consider before doing this without some work, for peace of mind. In the end of the day, we must all decide on things for ourselves.

So, assuming the 911 goes 65 at 7200 rpm, to go 108 mph, I'd imagine that you were going about 70% faster than redline [65*1.70~=107]. That's 7200 * 1.7, or 12100 rpm!!!! EEEEK! I can't imagine! No offense, but that's more than 50% higher revs than an engine at 8k. Food for thought.

Funny thing is I know better but old habits die hard. All you youngsters out there that are aspiring to track days and the like learn this and learn this well. Either buy a sequential or whenever you're upshifting into higher gears or downshifting to fourth or third make sure your thumb is pointing down, not up. I.e. you twist your hand so that its on the left of the shifter and your hand is upside down from the way you would grab it on the right. Makes it very hard to pull it toward you. Practise this all the time, make it second nature, as its not a natural motion. Heed the words of this old fart. If not, someday its likely you'll make the same mistake I did. Being old and set in my ways, I've yet to totally drill into my head, but $15k mistakes have a way of bringing the point home so to speak. the engine you save might be your own!

Not to go too far OT, but as a calling card, heres some hard data that shows a bit of my experience level or lack thereof. I thought some of you might find the graph below interesting as Joker was mentioning that 108 was a bit high speed for a turn. The graph shows that at exit of the Glen esses I'm pulling ~.8G at ~125MPH. (Note the shift to fifth as the Gs diminish and car straightens out.) First thing it suggests is that there are some frigging scary fast corners out there. Second thing it suggests (and some might be surprised at this) is that I'm pretty slow and I have a long way to go!!! My more experienced amateur racer friends in somewhat comparable cars are exiting there probably at 135. One guy I know with a monster 935 turbo clone does 1:55s at WGI; hes probably at 150!!! You ain't truly been scared in a car til you've ridden with an expert whose sliding the car on exit up there, foot flat to the floor.
! So far, I can't seem to make myself get on the power early enough to get to the 1.1 or so G that the car is comfortably capable of. Too chicken. It takes guts, gonads or a libotomy to be pushing that hard at those speeds and more experience than I yet have.As a recent addition here, I'll just mention that IMO this is a terrific forum. Despite being a Porsche guy first, I truly enjoy the attitude and enthusiasm of the motorers around here. I look forward to learning a ton from you guys, hopefully I can return the favor occasionally.
rjmann, thx for the advice!!
i did see this a couple yrs. back and have been doin' pretty well adjustin' the way i shift.
but i find it harder to do in the mini than in my VW six speed car, i think it due to the ease of the shift box on the Jetta....the gears jus fall in where as in the mini its not so smooth.
it makes a lot of sence to me to move and adjust the hand around the stick
i have not been on a track b4 so i havent a clue what it feels to go into & exit turns at those speeds, which BTW sounds kickass
i dont do any autoX my motorin' is strickly on the streets for now.
sure look forward to the next step
