Took the plunge ....

Well, I did it. Had some questions so I called Patrick at MTH-USA. Long story short ... just ordered it.

I'll be anxiously checking my mailbox for the next week or so.

I am to going to take the plunge but will wait in the spring when I get my pulley and light weight crank pulley. I have some mods now, but would want to make it worth doing when I get the other stuff on. I will be leaning towards the tuner file. Sorry if I am high jacking your thread, but do they allow for you to submit your data logging for them to adjust everything? And please keep us informed on how everything goes!

If you get it up on the dyno with an A/F graph with the HP/TQ graph, then it can be fine tuned even more.

If you get the tuner file, you get free upgrades, so why not do it now, and enjoy the added "fun" factor?

I alread got the tuner file done, and am adding a pulley shortly...then will need to email Patrick, and get more fun!

Do I hear peer pressure? haha One of the reasons why I was going to wait is that I need to stop spending money on the car lol and put some of it away for saving and have my goal of paying the car of within the first year of owning it! But will see what will happen. Maybe Ill have to work some OT to get more fun!

That is exactly what I am planning to do. I'm getting the tuner file now and will upgrade it when I add a pulley.

Tradiuz, sent you a pm on this earlier, but I think you've answered my question. Are you saying here that one of the standard programs can be customized based on the a/f of an individual car? Can timing also be tweaked?

I'm sorry about the PM, I just noticed it. Yes the tuning can be customized by the a/f of a car, same on the timing. Although, there is a point when you're getting into the Rally maps.

One last question to help me get my head around this: can the MINI ecu provide data points for a/f and timing for these adjustments, or must the data come via a dyno? Thanks for indulging me!

The PM has some additional info on which I would like your thoughts. Thanks again.

Got the cable

Well, I got the cable and downloaded the software. Installed the software and drivers on my Dell laptop without any issues.

Went out to the car with my laptop, connected the cable and downloaded the ECU information. It took about 5 or 6 minutes (seemed longer watching the status bar creep across the screen).

Sent my files to Patrick at MTH-USA. Will let you know when I get it back.

hi - im about to take the 'plunge' but i dont understand this?

i didnt realise u also needed to dyno ur car to get the right settings? i always believed u simply downloaded a file from ur car (which contained such data ), send it to MTH, they send u something back, u upload this, and done.? pls correct me if im wrong.
thanks

You do not have to put your car on a dyno in order to get a file / standard or custom made.

A/F ratio figures will only help if measured properly through an extra LSU sensor. All data gained through OBD etc. is not accurate enough. Data flow and range is far too slow/small.

I did not dyno and am quite satisfied with the results of loading in the tuner file.

It seems as thoughMTH has a handle on the right amount of torque and "leaning" out the A/F mixture from a baseline MCS without any additional data.

In the future, a 15% pulley and dyno run should satisfy all my needs for performance with this little rocket.

I don't care what the numbers are, really, just enjoying the fun of a spirited little car with good performance (and a safe ride)

Tuner File arrived!

Uploaded my ECU info last night and my new tuner file was waiting for me in my Inbox when I woke up this morning. Too bad I have to work!

I'm not getting a whole lot done at work, so I'll head home early to upload the tuner file.

More to come ....

All I can say is .... WOW

Uploaded my new tuner file. Took all of 5 minutes.

After driving around for about half an hour, I can definitely notice a difference. The throttle response (being more sensitive) will take some getting use to, but there is a noticeable difference in low end power.

So far, this has been well worth it!

Right on! I'm looking forward to the tuner file also. Maybe a couple more upgrades first, then I'm taking the MTH plunge!

Just wait until you have 100-200 miles on the Tuner load. The ECU cache (not the one cleared by the speedo reset) will take about that long to re-learn the new parameters. Enjoy!
