Is it worth adding to a JCW

Is it worth adding MTh software (tuning software) to a 2005 w/JCW? I am pretty much stock, but considering adding a larger TB...

Thanx, it came from an old video game add that got so many Bible Thumper complaints it was pulled immediately... I used to have a lic plate frame that had it, but living in SC (Buckle of the Bible Belt) it was counterproductive.

Another member did dyno test his JCW MCS with an intake. It was with MTH Tuner.

I am assuming that is before and after the MTH and Intake?

It was a JCW w/ Intake before and after MTH.

Tradiuz-

You say this dyno picture is of a "JCW WITH intake" ...

The current JCW 210 and Upgrade (retrofit) kits come with a specific upgraded intake - in fact, it is the most significant part of the Upgrade kit, featuring a flap that electrically opens at 4500RPM to accept air from the cowl area.

Did the car tested here use something other then the JCW intake? If so, which one?

Are you saying that a car with the full JCW 210 kit actually 'needs' a DIFFERENT intake to make the biggest performance jump with the MTH installed?

I ask because I have an '06 MCS with factory JCW on order, and was already considering the addition of the MTH software. But, I am having a real hard time trying to justify the JCW as a 'performance upgrade' if the only way to add further performance is to start REPLACING parts of the expensive kit itself, instead of just supplementing it with additional bolt-ons (crank pulley, etc.).

Thanks for the info.

Mods on Vader at the Dyno's:

JCW, PROMINI intake & strut brace. Konig Holes wheels. Graphics by Eric at Artisic Signs. Lots of optional equipment

The only mod between dynos was MTH Tuner. The first Dyno was back in December of '04, the second was done July. There is a 60*F difference in ambient temps between the two runs (30-40* / 30% Humidity December -> 90-110* / 80-100% Humidity July). Thats why I am going to be doing some runs on the same day/time of day when the weather cools off (90+*F w/ 100% Humidity is bad dyno weather).

dyno's please

Dyno's on the same day for same JCW, pre and post mth install, would be helpful, and probably help sell some software to people like me... Thanks

Well, let me see what I can work out with a local JCW owner...

What exactly is the MTH tuner and how is it installed? I assume its a software upgrade (speciufic to the JCW), so do the dealers install this willingly or are they reluctant (profit and warranty issues)?

MTH Tuner is a software remap for your ECU tuned to your specific mods (like the JCW kit) to squeeze more power out of the car. This an aftermarket part, and not a dealer installed item (unless you're near Habberstad...). Its simple to install, practically invisible to the dealer, and easy to revert to stock if you have to.

Thanks Tradiuz,

I went to the MTH site. Looks like I'd have to buy the remap software (with 12 months of upgrades, even if I do no more engine mods?) and one or two cables (data and USB - are they the same?) What runs the software - a pc or will an IPAQ do the trick? I assume from there, instructions come with the software, so I just follow directions.

You only need one cable. The Tuner File comes with 12 months of free upgrades, so no need for a remap. You need a PC (laptop preferred, for ease of use), since there is no PocketPC, Palm, *nix, or Mac software yet.

One last question. I am about to install the upgrade JCW injectors. Do I correctly assume that I can bypass installing the JCW software upgrade and go right to the MTH?

Many Thanks, Tradiuz. I'm off to shake the money tree for another 500 bucks. Who cares, in the end its all about h.p. (and torque).

I disagree, its all about the . Numbers are secondary!

Yeah, you could bypass getting JCW software and just jump to MTH software.

Tradiuz, what do you make of the a/f curves on the dyno sheet? The blue one (factory) looks to be lean and flat (which seems unusual for the JCW). The red line (presume it to be MTH) seems to go rich at high rpm's. Not criticising here at all, just curious about your take. No arguing with the results, they are very impressive.

On my 2003 JCW with the 210 upgrade kit, I didn't see much of a torque gain but about 10 hp increase. On all the post MTH tuner dyno runs there was a strange drop in power/torque at 6600 rpms. I also feel the same thing when driving. I can't figure out how to post an image or I would include a before and after graph.

I have a 2003 JCW with the 210 upgrade kit. With the MTH tuner file, I didn't get near the results of "vader" on the same dyno. This a before and after chart. The before was done about 8 months earlier on the same dyno. The only change was the MTH tuner file. I drove about 600 miles on the tuner file before the dyno run.

myth

good to see that data....

I still would like dyno's to see MYTH find and run a JCW with pre and post MYTH install, same day, same ambient temps, etc.

... I would think it would financially behoove MYTH to go to a JCW owner receptive to a MYTH install and do a dyno pre and post software change.. and post results

validity concern that pops to mind is problem with dyno'ing a jcw with an jcw intake, as general dyno'ing seems to have a car with the hood up, and a large fan blowing in the engine bay... this obviously favors a car with an open air element or CAI.. the JCW draws air from behind the cowl...

This makes me wonder about the validity of all those dyno runs folks have done with ALTA, Rouge open air filters when compared to a JCW equiped car.. but I digress somewhat...
