re: if this obd 2 cable fit me?

The adapter that is listed in the ebay link is not guranteed to work. There are three reasons for this:

1) The design is an opto coupler based design. Opto coupler designs are power by the computer serial port and obviously load the serial port. This loading will result in the adapter not working at all, or at best very unreliably at higher baudrates - which is what you are using when flashing the ECU. Evenmore fundamental is the fact that the application software (MTH tuning program) has to enable serial port "power" for this opto design to even have a chance to work.

2) The OBDII connector this design is using, will not fit correctly in MINI, BMW or even VW/AUDI.

3) This is a solution that has three links, and consequently 6 connectors. That is 3 times more than the connectors a single cable solution has. In use, electronic reliability is compromised with this increase.

So to sum it up, this design is highly unreliable, and not recommended for flashing your ECU.

The MONO-COM on the other hand is a design that will work with all serial ports, does fit the OBDII connector properly, and is a single cable design. It is a SMT design, with proper circuit protection built in. Something that can not be said of most other interface adapters.

I hope this helps in making your choice of adapter.

The USB and the Serial cable are the same, except for the port they use. Most modern laptops do not have serial ports anymore, but 99.9% have USB.

FYI: I wanted the flexibility of having both USB and serial so I bought the Mono-com serial cable which I use with a Keyspan USB adapter on my notebook that doesn't have a serial port. The Keyspan adapter creates a virtual com port (COM5 for me). I have no problems using it with MTH. Rock solid.

Thats good to know that you found a good USB->Serial adapter. I've seen some people have timing issues with those, causing "funky" problems. Funky being random read-errors causing it to fail and have to start over a few times.
