MTH for Cooper (non S) question

Will it make the motor rev down faster between shifts? When I rev 1st gear to the redline, it takes a bit too long to rev down for a smooth shift into 2nd gear. Will MTH change that behaviour?

I am gonna take an educated guess and say NO. That is purely a function of the flywheel.

Thats what I thought at first, however I've heard "rumors" that its because the ECU is still giving the engine some fuel so to minimize emissions.

I hope this will get a response from the MTH team.

Yes, it will remove the 'throttle hold' that keeps the RPM way up between 1 and 2. The car will wind down faster than before (but not as fast as a light flywheel).

Thanks for the reply, that clears things up.
Is it possible to list a few more "bugs" that MTH software fixes?

Their DSC program is worth the price of MTH alone. I use to shut off DSC as soon as I got in the car, as I found it to be quite dangerous (nothing like DSC cutting engine torque when you stomp on the throttle in the face of oncoming traffic). I've actually been leaving DSC on since the MTH upload & have yet to encounter any ill effects (thus far). I also had them remove the "throttle hold". This makes a world of difference & makes for quicker shifts. As I understand it, removal of the "throttle hold" is available by request & may not necessarily just come with your "Standard" or "Tuner" file. I have the "Tuner" file & now the car just feels like it should have from the factory. Low end torque, where the stock Mini is lacking, is greatly improved... just as MTH states it would. Email Volker for specifics, but they can pretty much tweak anything the ECU does.

I have a 2005 Cooper, and it makes a huge difference. Its much easier to shift between 1/2 since its not still at 5k when it should be 3k, the DSC only kicks in when I'm being an idiot (or at the track), and the boost in power is very nice. I also have a leased vehicle, so the fewer "visible mods" the better.

Also, MTH will change the redline (if you want) and remove the speed limiter (130mph).

Redline is always up to 7200 RPM, but can be set according to your request.
