This is a feeler to guage interest in a MINI autocross during Dragon weekend. Here's what I see as possibilities:

1. The event would likely be in Asheville. Hopefully with the cooperation of a local SCCA region, which I will contact if interest seems high.

2. I'm guessing we'll need at least 40-50 drivers to cover costs. Cost would likely be in the $40 range.

3. It would be an all day event, probably arriving around 10 am (Asheville is about 1.5 hours from Fontana) and ending between 3-5 pm.

4. It would be suited for novices and experienced autocrossers, and use a slightly modified SCCA classification system. I'd like to try to avoid people thinking they need to bring R compound tires to the dragon weekend.

5. It could be tied in to a Builtmore Trip for non-autocrossers, as the Builtmore Estate is also in Asheville.

6. It would likely be Sunday (not good for people going home, I know) but I could try to get Saturday if there is strong desire for it - but it might interfere with other Saturday activities.

I repeat, this is just a feeler. I think it would be a great way for people who have spent a few days at the dragon to "Settle it on the track", and it would be a sufficiently low stress environment that it would be a great introduction to the sport to new people.

If you are interested, please post here. If there is sufficient response in the next few weeks, I'll start working details.

As always, suggestions are welcome.

Travis

I think the idea has merit. I would also like to see maybe a gymkana. (Gymkana is to autocross like poker rallie is to TSD events). Ashville is good or maybe in TN. There are a lot of good drives to and from the Dragon. As for R rated tyres...you may find a few of those on the Dragon next year if you do this and the wx is good.

Travis,
I would be up for an autocross event at the Dragon next year. Sat is great, if it is Sunday then I would just have stay an extra day.

I will be happy to lend what ever assistance that I can from a distance.

Go for it, I am behind yuo.

Thanks for the replies! I'm hoping we can continue to generate interest in this. We have a club meeting this weekend, and I'm going to talk to all of those poeple and see what they say.

Sounds like something that I would be interested in doing! I'll just get some more information on this this Sunday in Charlotte. I know that there may be a few of us from Raleigh heading down.
