Fortunately, we were able to easily pass them, but I thought they were nuts to do it.

In case Smokey is watching this thread -- are we going to have another Biltmore Concours this year?

>>hee hee - I don't think a bicyclist would be stupid enough to ride down The Dragon - especially since there is NO shoulder in most areas!

I thought the tattoos were taking the place of the dragon stickers.

There are a few of us leaving from Detroit I believe early Thursday morning to head down to the dragon in one day. If you would like to meet up along the way and travel with us your more than welcome. I think it is going to be 4 minis at least and a few other British cars

Does anyone coming up for this 'non-event' have a Cooper with aftermarket exhaust? I'm in the market and want to hear a few in person before I decide. I've listened to a few clips online but I'd rather hear it for myself first.

Mojogator,

I know of several people who are coming with aftermarket exhausts to the Dragon. You will be able to pick them out rather easily by their exhaust note. More than likely there will be a lot of different brands of exhuasts for you to listen to (if, you can find them sitting still that is ).

An owner from the MINI2 boards, search on Paddy, has a Borla on his car. It sounds very nice. He had it on the car for the trip last year. I asked him about the sound level on a trip. He said it did not bother him. I'm hoping that someone there will have the R-Speed MC system. I would like to compare the two.

Mojogator, I have a Borla performance exhaust and I will be at this 'non-event'. I will be staying at the Microtel from about Monday afternoon on. Had so much fun last year, I decieded to double the amount of time I would be spending down there. Look me up when you arrive. BRG/W, the one with the hula girl on the dash.

INFORMATION ABOUT MICROTEL

I talked with Sue this afternoon about the rooms left at the Microtel. As AW has stated that there are only 8 rooms being held for the MINI Cooper's at the reduced rate. While talking with Sue, she noticed that there were four other rooms booked for the this event at the reduced rate. This may mean that there are really only 4 rooms left out of the 30 set aside. Sue also said that they have had a request for 15 rooms that same weekend for a wedding. Sue said that she would hold the remaining rooms until the end of this month, after that remainig rooms of the 30 would be released.

please book now or risk being shutout ! ! ! ! !

Dragon Run 2004 takes place the same weekend, April 29 through May 3, with the official parade on Friday, April 30. Here's a link to the web site, with local information:
Tail of the Dragon

Room discount info:

The Microtel has 30 rooms reserved for 4/29 through 5/1 2004. The rates are:

Single room - $44.95 -> one queen size bed
Double room - $49.95 -> two queen size beds
Suite - $62.95 -> Refig/Microwave/coffe machine table chairs 1 queen and a sleeper sofa

These 30 rooms have been set aside in a block. When those are gone they will honor the above price until they are completely booked. The Microtel will also honor the above prices on the front and back side of the stated date.

The booking code word, for lack of a better phrase, is can you guess....."Mini Cooper"

Call the local Microtel at (828) 479-6772, do not call the 800 number.

Once you get an operator, make sure you tell them that you want to make a reservation for the MINI Cooper block of rooms.

What sort of event can we expect, MINIclo???

Everyone remember that it is a dry county, although you can buy beer from the Tapoco Lodge just down the hill from Deal's Gap. If you want anything harder, your choices are local moonshine (my #1 choice) or BYOB!

Thanks for the reminder....I want to come prepared with the right stuff, so what do y'all think is the most appropriate coctail at a MINI event?

As I said before, the most appropriate cocktail is the locally distilled spirits produced in this "dry" county: Moonshine
