BuyMyCooper.com: Selling my 2004 MCS

Hey everyone. My wife and I are expecting our first child and we own two coupes. My MINI is worth far more than my wife's 1998 Nissan 200SX so I have to part with it to get a "family vehicle". I'm excited about the baby, but really disappointed I have to get rid of my MCS.

Anyway, I have put up a one page website with all of the details on my 2004 MCS. It includes lots of photos, 360 video, and lots of info. The car is in excellent shape. If you know anyone who would be interested in it, please pass it along. Thanks.

http://www.BuyMyCooper.com

I would also like to know what any of you think of my asking price. I used Cars.com and KBB to determine it. Thanks.

That's one beautiful Mini! Wish I would have come across it when I was shopping around prior to October. Looks pretty much just like mine, and has the cold weather package that I wish mine had. Doesn't have the goofy PDC like mine does either. *jealous*

Your asking price is just a hair above what I paid for mine ($21,500). So I don't think your price is unreasonable by any means. I bought mine from California though, and from what the previous owner of mine said - most of the people looking at the car when it was for sale were put off by the Indi Blue color. I guess they were looking more for pure silver or astro black...

One note though - if I remember correctly, one of the Marketplace forum rules states that you have to post an asking price for anything you are trying to sell here. So you might want to post that up on here so you won't get in trouble.

Anyway, I've just sent the link for your Mini to a few potential shoppers. Wish you luck selling that beautiful car!!

I just reduced the asking price

I compromised a bit and dropped the price down to $21,200. The car is in excellent shape so the cost is in between the prices for excellent and good condition for a private party sell on Kelly Blue Book. Thanks for sharing the link.

Question about mods

I have had a few questions asking if I have done any modifications on my 2004 MCS. The answer is no. I prefer my MINI to be completely OEM. I’ve had issues with 3rd party products on previous vehicles and decided I wasn’t going to do that route on my MINI. If it didn’t have MINI written on it, I did not put it on my car. I had to replace the windshield due to a rock chip and made sure it has the MINI logo on it.

Aww sorry you have to sell the MINI. If I were in the market I'd snap this one up - it's gorgeous!

Reason for selling

Hello. I have had several people contact me to tell me that you can have a family and a MINI. I just thought I would further explain my situation to everyone to address this. I bought my MINI before I got married. I was planning on the MINI being my commuter and the wife would drive the family car. My wife brought some debt and an inclination to spend into the marriage. We had a 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee which was going to serve as the family vehicle, but it died and we were forced to buy a 1998 Nissan 200SX for cheap. Now, we feel we need at least one 4-door vehicle for the baby on the way. My MINI has far more value in it (credit to MINI's great resale value) so we're going to sell it.

There's another reason. I also need to reduce our overhead as much as possible. My MINI payment is only $299/month, but every little bit helps. My plan is to sell the MINI, pay off the auto loan, and then buy a family vehicle with the remainder without taking on another auto loan. My MINI has not only been a great car, but it's going to pay itself off and buy another vehicle outright. That's the plan and if I pull it off, it will be another reason why I love(d) my MINI.

We have 2 MINIs and a 2 month old baby boy. We manage perfectly fine. No plans to sell either car. It is just a baby for crying out loud!

Why folks feel the need to buy the largest land barge when having a kid?

Best of luck. But I will tell it to you like it is. You will regret selling the car inmensely.

Give the guy a break. I doubt that anyone here is going to make Huligan's car payment for him, pay his bills, or give him baby formula. Therefore, he has good reasons for doing what he has to do. However, everyone has an opinion and being able to express it is what America is all about. Granted, alot of money is saved by owning a MINI, especially with gas prices the way they are. I don't want to sell my MINI either. I love my MINI! However, with child #3 on the way, I have to get a bigger car (and I sold my 96 Impala SS to buy my MINI). So, either the Z4 or the Cooper S has to go. Yeah, he'll miss the car, but who knows. Maybe he'll be able to get another one in the future. That kid will make him famous someday. Different strokes for different folks! - Good luck selling the car.

Having been through the change of vehicle with a baby, from a 2 door we both loved to a 4 door for practical reasons, so I completely understand. Just make sure you're okay with it before you make the change. Anyway, I just bought an '04 MCS, BRG, BLK, beige interior with the same options (minus the rain sensor wipers and auto adjusting mirrors). It had 18,500 miles and I paid $18K. Private party, garaged, exceptional condition in and out, non-smoker. I think I got a great deal but figured since you were looking for comps I'd provide my info. KBB, NADA, and Edmunds all make it appear your price is in the right ball park and my experience may be just an exception.

New tires!

Hey. The front passenger run-flat picked up a leak so I decided to replace all 4 tires since I would be doing fairly soon anyway. I got rid of the run-flats and the ride has improved which makes my pregnant wife happy. I went with the XL Kumho ECSTA SPT (205/45ZR17). I'm happy with them so far.

That's a fair price for a very nice car. I must say, though, that I paid $17,500 for a similar spec MCS with 24k miles. Good luck... if I was in the market your car would definitely be it!

All the prices that everyone is giving you really don't mean a thing. It all comes down to what part of the country you are selling the car in. People in california buy them far cheaper than other places because there are so many dealers out there. Keep close to your current price as its fair for mini cared for so meticulously.

Huligan, trust me when I say you do not have to sell it. My husband and I had the same problem when I was pregnant. He had a four-door though, but we knew I would end up taking the baby to daycare because it's near work. So he wanted me to sell the MINI.

I did SOOOO much research on this site and other safety sites. I looked into car seats. I can fit everything in the MINI that I need to fit! It sounds like you love your car as much as I love mine. I honestly believe that my baby is safer in the MINI than he would be in a big SUV. SUVs flip. I'm not sure what you are planning on getting. Oh dear god, not a minivan I hope. Can you honestly see yourself driving around in a dreaded minivan?

See this thread that I started when I was pregnant...

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=54178

What do you think they do in Europe when they have kids?

I hope somehow you can hold on to it. I think if you sell it, you will deeply regret it and miss your MINI everyday...

Wannamini,

What car seat did you find that fit the best? For rear facing infants...

My Graco Snugride fits just perfect. But I will admit that the passenger seat had to move most of the way up, not leaving much leg room for a passenger. Pretty soon, he will be able to turn around! And I am looking at Recaro seats for him!

And a BUMP again for a nice MINI - sorry to hijack your sales thread with baby talk...

Hey WannaMini. The primary reason I'm selling my 2004 MCS is money. My wife and I need to reduce our monthly overhead. When I sell it, I will pay off my MINI loan and buy another car without taking on a car payment. The next car will have 4 doors and have more space, but that's secondary. I love my MINI and didn't plan on having to sell it, but you do what you have to.

Oh, I gotcha, Les. First and foremost certainly is that you have a baby on the way! It will change your life forever in a richer way than you can ever imagine.

Best of luck to you and your wife and your impending arrival.

This is a gorgeous MINI at a great price. And a BEAUTIFUL retired color as well. A BUMP for a great MINI in search of good home...

Huligen,

Not to say you won't get your price, but it may take a while. I'm going to test drive a 2004 JCW with about the same miles as yours, asking price just $1k more.

Checked out the "new" minis at the Philly Auto Show last night BTW - going to be a hard choice, '07 MCS or '04 JCW with about $2000 bucks in my pocket....

Good luck

Kurt
