Wouldn't characterize myself as an expert on Mini prices at all . . . but I do have a strong background and working knowledge of economic concepts and consumer behavior that apply in most markets, but thanks for the compliment nonetheless. To your question: Well I don't know the specifics, but how many JCWs get produced per year (as a percentage of overall MCS production)? Are we talking 2%? 5%? 7%? 10%? Also, is no JCW production for 2007 confirmed? If so, what about 2008? Is JCW (or something like it) no longer going to be offered?

To the extent that there is demand but no supply, there is a possibility that prices could remain at least flat (prices going up would be highly unlikely based on depreciation of the underlying vehicle). Having said that, knowing the % of production would help to more accurately answer your question. If JCW production is very low (i.e. 2%-5%) then I'd say no, no real chance of 05 and 06 JCW prices even remaining flat, especially given that it's exceptionally easy to tune a turbo-charged car (relative to a supercharger): all you do is swap out ECUs while a super-charged car requires a hardware solution for more boost.

I think its far more complicated than you even asked ... and then very simple to answer. By that I mean.

JCWs aren't produced in the traditional sense as a separate model but are dealer installed aftermarket parts (supplied by JCW) that MINI warrants. Its all about the warranty. 02 - 05 cars were dealer installed Tuning Kits (TCs). 06 was the first year it was an option you ticked off on the ordering sheet (and it still could be installed by the dealer). Percantage of cars ... I think this has been discussed before and maybe 15 - 20% worldwide. Why so low? Cheaper to get more HP aftermarket.

That all said, JCW won't get you much of anything either. Again, the masses just dont care and "technically" JCW IS aftermarket.

07 cars wont have them simply because they haven't developed the kits yet just as the 02 owners had to wait a bit before the first JCW TCs were available. So current predictions are they can be ordered Summer, 07 as 08 cars.

There is some discussion that the JCW "might" be a separate model ... MINI, MINI S, and MINI JCW. If that comes true, that would be the BEST overall scenario that can happen ... just like you buy a Honda DX, LX and EX. Each model will be listed separately by all the pricing guidelines.

And 05/06 JCWs? I really would not hold my breath you will get anywhere near the initial investment back. Its not the same thing as being a different model. The fact that its easier to get more power from turbos is just another factor as to why the first gen cars will take a hit once people actually see the 07s on the road (i.e., the car is real).

ANDROID ... sorry for the OT hijack ....

BACK to selling your car!

I don't think any of the JCW's are going to be rare, just more expensive to buy from the dealer. But getting back to the thread the points are right on from the stand point that you don't get back what you put into it. I don't expect it at all. I guess we'll see where I end up in the end.

To answer a few questions:
1. No I won't part it out the trick stuff.
2. Maybe I'm crazy on the price, but to do it you know what it cost to get something like this put together.
3. No it hasnt gone over 10k miles yet.
4. I might take a partial trade for it.
5. I do have a new car coming, but no rush to sell it.
6. What ever!
7. Yes I'll miss it.
8. If it doesnt sell, maybe I'll just keep it and not regret selling it.

Your car says "Coronado" on the license plate holder, are you from there?
I was born and raised there, and know lots of people there, just interested.

Paul

Both my parents are from there. I lived there on/off the Island for several years. They are still on E Avenue. Great place to visit but I got tired of driving across the pond to go anywhere.

I don't have the box anymore, but you might be right. Sure has a nice finish on it and I'd do it again. Really is a nice addition to the interior.
