I live in the Chicago area (Downers Grove) and would be more than happy to show the car to anyone. I am now asking $22,500 or best offer. The reason for selling is that I have put in an order for an '06 Lancer Evolution 9 which should be just as much fun as the S so I NEED to sell this car within a month or so if I am going to sell it privatly. Thanks for looking and you can also contact me at gsrhb@comcast.net or by phone, which I will disclose upon further request. Thanks everybody and MOTOR ON!!

sorry everyone, when I said anthracite interior, I meant anthracite dash/anthracite door panels. I am the second owner. Also, I am listing the different features of the car so that people who do not yet own a MINI (which are probably the people I would be marketing to) would know what the car has to offer. Here is a quick link if you guys think I am asking too much(mainly planeguy). anyway, thanks for the interest.

It appears that you also have the Premium pkg, as you have the sunroof and auto a/c, so, factoring that in, I just priced out a brand new 2006 with your specs (minus your custom items like tint) and it came to exactly $25000.00
You may have a difficult time selling that in a month if you don't get more agressive on your price. Also the 06 will have the new shorter gearing and a full warranty.
On the other hand, your car looks very clean and in very good shape.
Good luck.

I see MINIs priced in the range the OP is asking for (as he says, its just the asking price) at dealers in the Seattle area (again, no telling what the actual sale prices are). The question is, will the market bear this price as a private party transaction in the Chicago area?
Easier to lower your price than raise it, and more power to him if we can get it.
Its a very clean looking MINI, certainly.

thanks for the comments, I didnt know 06 mini cooper S's were only 25k, looks like I will have to lower the price of the car, but please keep in mind that this is in the Chicago area, prices seem to be higher here than in some other areas. Either this car gets traded in or it gets sold privatly, so Id rather hand it over to a fellow enthusiast rather than some dealer. thanks for all the comments, and well see what happens.

Thank you all for looking.22k is still optimistic, but is a fair starting price as it is a substantiated price. by a third party. (nada, and edmunds etc...) but it seems that realistically an 04 MCS is going for closer to 20 these days.
It's just that here in the NAM community we all know exactly what each option costs. most of us i think are one owners. and when a car is priced more than what you can go to the dealer in chicago and buy one for
Here is one on the lot at Knauz MINI brand new 06 that is exactly the same spec, except it is Hyper Blue. cold, sport, premium pkg, antracite interior and leatherette all the same options for $24,500
http://knauz-mini.com/New-Inventory....oryId=12949524
The good news is that resale on MINI's is outstanding....the bad news is that the value is so close to new that well informed buyers will just buy new.....good luck on the sale
Im having a hard time believing that an 06 MCS is going for only 24,500 out the door, perhaps you are looking at a basic cooper, I know nothing around my area is that cheap. you gotta remember tax, title, and docking fees which is about like $1,800. It's nice that you are taking so much interest in my car, it's quite flattering but if you don't agree with my opinion on what the car is worth, then please keep it to yourself, there is no need to try and prove that you are an expert at appraising a Mini Cooper, especially on a thread I started. Anyway, alot of people dislike the new model mini coopers, for such reasons as softer suspension, different headlights and tail lights, etc. I think some one would be willing to pay a few thousand less and buy a used 04 model. Just my opinion. I also see numerous MINI "S" 's selling for exactly what I am asking in MY AREA. so, I am satisfied with the price I am asking. If no one buys it, no one buys it. It doesnt matter to me either way, I already have my new car on the way and if I trade it in, I save about $1,300 on taxes. So if I sell it for 23,000 or trade it in for 21,700 I still get the same amount for the car. thanks for looking everyone.
tax and title is due on a used car too.
My '06 on order is $26200 with the $1800 optional English Panther Leather. It's got LSD, Cold Weather, Xenons, sunroof, MFSW, anthracite dash and headliner. Take away the leather and it's close to your asking price, but with LSD, more power and shorter gear ratios (and never breathed on for 32kmiles

Im not looking at a basic cooper and have been very explicit on what your car cost brand new. And tax title and fees ARE NEVER included in a resale price. perhaps you are fairly young and have not bought or sold many cars, but you are selling a car and that car has an established market value. You need to know what it is, if you actually intend to sell the carI understand that you are second owner and didn't do your homework before you bought the car....and still havent aparently. I do and have always taken an exceptional intrest in those who try sell thier cars for more than they actually paid for them. This IS an enthusiast board and many people here are experts in many aspects of the car. As a result it is also a resource for those who come here to learn about the car. I do feel responsible to provide accurate information and to help make this a place that those who are intrested in a MINI are dealt with as you would deal with your brother or sister. I don't think you would seek to make a profit or pass on a bad deal to a family member
Sheesh- let him sell his car!!:impatient If you have no interest in buying it why haggle with his price or better yet start your own thread on the merits of asking more than what you paid.
I sold a 57 Chevy for $15,000 a few years back. Cost $1200.00 new.

The second quote says some thing quite different. We were giving feedback based on the requirements of your initial post. Given the trade in tax delta, you may well get a better deal on trade in than to a private party, especially if you need to sell it quickly. Note that you may want to check what the Mistu dealer will give you on trade-in, so you know a bottom line break even price for a private party. Another slightly nefarious
option to lower the effective price to a seller is to say you sold it for a few thousand less, thus they pay less sales tax. In CA a $12K MINI costs the buyer $800 less than a $22K MINI... (not that *I* would ever do that.
)
Outback - this is a forum, not Autotrader - the price of 'free' listing is comments from the gallery. I think people have been quite respectful, and may help the seller get a realistic price vs. a shock at trade in. YMMV.

Thanks outbackbob, i think you pretty much summed it up. If you don't like my price, don't buy it. I take it you guys are already owners, or already have one ordered, so Im not marketing to you guys. I am a young person, im 20 years old, I don't see how my age has anything to do with myself trying to sell a vehicle? Perhaps you are a tad ignorant to try and use my young age to try and validate your own personal opinions? I have owned and bought my last five cars and I am also buying my next car BY MYSELF. I do have some experience in buying and selling cars. Also, this is in chicago, not CA or some other state, so arguing about taxes, title fees, interest rates, or anything that varies depending on geographic location is just a waste of time. I do NEED to sell my car in a month, IF... I sell it privatley. Also, I already got 2 quotes for my MINI, $18,600 and $17,800. Both of these quotes are low (atleast in my opinion) and the dealer stated that they were giving me a low trade in value because I was getting my next car for $2,250 under dealer invoice. So for the dealer to tell me that they are giving me a low trade in value, and quoting me around $18,000, this leads me to believe that I can get around $22,00 to $23,000. Also, the fact that almost all of the '04 MINI S's for sale in the CHICAGOLAND area is selling for the same price I am selling my car for, I don't think I am too optomistic. Also, I am aware that ALL cars purchased require taxes to be paid upon purchase, I've bought 5 cars already, privatley and through dealerships. I never stated that upon buying my car, no fees or taxes would be assesed through the motor vehicle department. Anyway, I really appreciate all of the criticism about the price of my car, even though I feel it was unnecessary and perhaps communication through PM's would have been much more helpful, I still have confidence that I can get anywhere from $22,000 to $23000. so good luck to everybody, enjoy your cars, and thanks for putting a bad taste in my mouth towards a certain percent of the NAM community, during my stay here, I got the sense that MINI owners respected each other and appreciated everyone's own personal opinions. perhaps I was wrong ?

Like I like to say "a seat for every *** and an *** for every seat". Let the guy learn as we all did. Its always funny that we want top dollar for the cars we sell but bottom dollar for the cars we buy. Its like real estate, somebody will buy it at some price - thats the market, which is not limited to NAM members. But as we all know our expectations are rarely met when it comes to pricing. I wish him luck and hope it sells.
Downsize-
Please post when you sell your car. You will get it.
I commend you on being able to buy and pay for your own autos at such a young age. Good going.
Used Minis around here (S. Oregon) are going upwards of $26,000 for '03 and 04 models at the dealerships.
They sell within a couple of weeks. It's not like they are a dime a dozen like the PT Crusier. Nearest new Mini dealer is in Portland (300 miles) and has an 8 month wait. I was quoted 1 year wait when I bought mine. Some people don't want to wait that long or want a Mini right now and will ****** your car up.
Since the 07's will no longer be supercharged the 06 and below models will begin to appreciate as they become rare.
NAM is a good community, has excellent contributors and has helped me through many problems but, some here feel they are the Mini Gods and show it in thier posts. You will find that in any forum you join regardless of the subject.

Hang in there an ignore the nay sayers.:impatient
