Texas Hold 'em Rules
You will need these on Sunday...
Poker Hands – Texas Hold ‘em
Poker is based on 5 card hands. These hands are ranked in order of the difficulty in achieving these specific combinations of cards.
Cards from a standard playing deck are numbered 2-10, J, Q, K, A, from lowest to highest value. Each card also has one of four different "suits" -- hearts (h), clubs (c), spades (s), diamonds (d).
Specific combinations of these cards represent the Poker Hands, and are listed here in descending order of rank:
Full House - Three of one #, Two of another #
Flush - All the same suit
Straight - Consecutive #s
Three of a kind - Three cards of the same #
Two Pair - Two Pairs of cards with the same #
Pair - Single pair of cards with the same #
Examples:
Straight: 2 3 4 5 6
Flush: 2c 5c 9c Ac Jc
Two Pair: 3 3 8 8 X
Three of a kind: 9 9 9 X X
X = any card
Texas Hold'Em Rules
The game usually involves a table of about 10 players. One player is arbitrarily labeled the "dealer" (or "button"). Play starts to the left of the "dealer", and continues in a clock-wise order.
After each hand, the "dealer" designation moves one position to the left. So every player at the table has his fair share as "dealer". Note: in a casino, there is a designated dealer who physically deals the cards... but this naming convention remains to allow eveyone to have a fair turn in the "dealer" position. The "dealer" position is advantageous because that player is the last to act during betting. Everyone else must either bet or fold before the "dealer" has to act.
First 2 Cards
Each player is dealt two cards face down. These are the player's private cards and should not be shown to anyone else. Each player looks at their cards and a round of betting ensues. As always, play stars to the left of the dealer and each player can either "bet", "raise", or "fold" depending on how strong they feel their cards are.
If a player "raises" by increasing the bet, then subsequent players must either match that raise ("call") or fold (put down their cards). This way, everyone still playing (ie. hasn't folded) has contributed an equal amount of money to the "pot".
The Flop
Once the initial round of betting has finished, then three cards are dealt from the deck face-up in the middle of the table. These three cards are known as "The Flop" and represent community cards shared by everyone at the table. At this point, each player has a 5 card hand composed of two private cards and the three community cards.
Another round of betting/raising/folding ensues.
The Turn
After everyone has bet on The Flop, a 4th community card is dealt -- called "The Turn". Another round of betting ensues.
The River
After betting, a final community card is dealt -- called "The River". A final round of betting ensues. And once this is complete, players reveal their two private cards.
The player with the best possible hand out of their set of cards is the winner and wins the money from the pot. If at any point during the betting rounds described above, only one person remains betting, while all other people have folded, then that one person wins the pot by default…..Enjoy the Game!!

It looks like there might be a good turn out and I want stop by to meet people before you leave. I've been wanting to attend a 5280 event so I can meet the people before joining. I won't do the rally as a non-member, but would like to see the people and of course their cars.
Hello Golly!!
What is this 'meet people' nonsense? Here at MINI5280:
- We don't meet people, we MOTOR with them
- We do have members, but we have non-members and friends, too
- Just because you are not yet a paid member does not mean you won't be
- Non members are as welcome as members
- We don't give a flip what you drive, even SUV's are welcome
- We do not advertise in the New Yorker
- There is heartache in watching 30 other MINIs drive off into the sunset, knowing you will not be with them
- So when you come out, stay out. Join us. Take a ride. You are always welcome.
Just know that our Membership Chairman, Rick Gonzales ( Membership@MINI5280.org ) has magical powers and he will make every reasonable effort to extract $27 from your wallet. But don't blame him, that is his job.
And, you will only meet a few of our many hundreds of members. Trust me, you do have things in common with them like
- we all walk upright
- most drive a MINI or a Mini or both
- nobody bites. Yet.
- most are friendly. Even me.
Thanks, see you Sunday.

Poker run was a blast, even if we DID have to cut it short due to a previous engagement. . .
Had a great motor, met some great people, saw lots of great MINIs. Are there any photos posted yet, either here or on mini5280.org? My wife and I have some shots if you're interested, including a panorama shot of MINIs in front of Ralph Schomp.
Let's do this again soon!

There will be pictures posted, and a writeup at
www.MINI5280.org in the next few days. Kendall just got back from the Star Wars convention, and he needs a few days to catch up.
Send your pics to Kgelner@pobox.com or to Secretary@MINI5280.org.
Thanks, and your comments are welcome, we can paraphrase you too.

Wish I could be there!
Well wave at my car on Monday: CR/B with chrome flames on bonnet. It is sitting at the dealership :(.
Needless to say I will not be there because I don't have a car.
Wouldntcha know there would be so much cool stuff going on this weekend and I am without my car.
I took it in for regular service on 8/27, took it home (Colo SPgs) and it sat in the garage until Thurs of this week. Tried to drive it and the brakes failed. I mean foot to the floor, with slight braking power at the floor. It was towed there on Thurs. It was ready Fri but I had no way to retrieve it, and the dealer will deliver it in Tues.
Just to throw this out-They returned the car to me on 8/27 initially stating the the brake pads were fine and of course they bled the lines while it was there. We put 300 miles on it since the service and yesterday they replaced all four pads-telling me one of the brakes was now metal on metal. How does a car go from fine to needing brakes all around in 300 miles? I am still scratching my head over that one?
I also had some knee surgery so driving is out for a while.
Have fun at the run and I will be thinking about you
