Limp mode at high altitude

Can high altitude put a mini in limp mode?

Driving down from MITM to Denver i went the Breckenridge/Hoosier Pass route. I stopped at Hoosier summit for a few minutes and had no problems there although the fan was running pretty hard. Then i stopped for gas in Fairplay and right after we got back on the road the half power CEL came on and the car lost its oomph. It was running smoothly but had poor acceleration. Pulled off at the top of Crow Hill to check the error codes but the ScangaugeII didn't find any codes. Shortly after getting back on the road the CEL cleared and the car seems to have its pep back. Have any of you Colorado motorers experienced or heard of a car having altitude sickness? I'm visiting from Seattle so maybe my car is more of a sea level kind of car?

We had that happen in the grand Tetons. Pressure change in the gas tank. In our case I simply undid the gas cap and then retightened it. No more complaints from the MINI

I had the same problem driving into Fairplay around Red Hill Pass...mini lost umph and I wasn't sure what was happening. Seemed to be ok just less acceleration. It stayed lit up for the 3 days I was in the South Park area but seemed to improve. Once I hit Crow Hill on the way home, the light went off. This was a couple months ago.

Driving back from MITM we had no problems, no lights. We drove back the same way you mentioned. I'm hoping it was just a fluke for his first visit to the 11,000 foot altitude.

This happens but be aware you might have a weak High Pressure Fuel pump, get it checked at the dealer, also make sure that gas cap is tight and has a good seal.

Good to know - i'll definitely have the HPFP checked next time it's in for service. I stopped by Schomp today too and talked to an SA and it sounds like it's not an unusual issue here, and the fuel mixture was likely getting too rich.
