Corroded Coil brass tips
Corroded Coil brass tips
Well what do you think? Does this corroded brass tip on the coil deem a replacement coil?

Does this deem a MSD 8239
@ streetsideAuto for $69.60
Screamin Deamon
@ Outmotoring for $87.95
or the Accel 140026
@ performance parts for $59.95
Oh wise Forum members, please give me your opinions! Or what you think
Rich

I did sand down the corrosion and then used metal polish to clean it up totally, and now it is somewhat better, but I don't trust it. It had a spewing coolant tank that must have done the corrosion, which I flushed and refilled and seems to have fixed that. I tried to pull off the plug to see if it has round or flat pins, but it is stuck on there pretty good, I am hoping that the plug itself is not toast. A new coil and plug wires will make me happy.
I would go with the MSD, good racing history. Do this and some plug wires, plugs and call it good.
I wonder how much static leak the MSD will throw on your next dyno run.
Whatever Jeff (Hippie) has on his did not leak.

You stated that the connector was stuck. Just in case you did not do so, make sure to slide the little red locking clip to unlock the connector. My clip slides to the left (passenger side) when looking at the coil from the front of the car. Even after unlocking the connector I had to use a screwdriver to lightly pry the connector loose.
The coil has flat pins. As people have stated stock if fine. I went with MSD.

Noticed that they are flat pins, and had to do just as you stated above. Jegs has actually the best deal with free shipping and Taylor 8.2 plug wires in blue. So I am ordering those today. I already installed E3's e3.48 plugs, which is helping it start better already. Lets see what the rest can do. I am trying to catch up to you Don.

Did you go with a jegs unit or MSD?
I am ordering the MSD 8239 from www.jegs.com correction ordered for both BLU-BY-U with Blue wires and RUDEBOX with Red wires.

Rich,
I bought my MSD from PepBoys, about the same price you paid. No shipping $
or waiting!
I do like it, switched back and forth between MSD and stock a few times. My "drivability" (imagination?) seems better.
See ya Wednesday.

The coils will be here Thursday, and the wires shortly after( Jegs had to put in the order to Taylor to have them made). Jegs gave me free shipping and handling as part of their low price matching. See everyone at the ground breaking!
Rich, MiniMaybee is correct RED is faster. At least as far as coils go. I just add the MSD coil pack and Brisk Racing Plugs to my CooperS.
The tips on my stock coil were also corroded. I dont know if its the MSD coil, the New Plugs, or BOTH but, the car seems faster and more responsive.

Rich or Bryan did you push out the aluminium sleeves on the MSD or drill them out? Or get new bolts?
Outmotoring states this on their website
IMPORTANT:
It is best to remove factory bolts from your factory coil, remove rotating sleeves from around factory bolt and use liberated factory bolts through the corners of the MDS coil.
Not sure how they "liberated" the factory bolts, I think I will just get some new ones and washers.

Blu - would love to hook up and run your new coil/wire set up against my stock (let you run my stock on your car) to see if you can tell any gains/losses - everything I have researched say's that the stock system is good to go but would welcome the comparison. If there is an advantage I would like to know (Then I would have to upgrade
)
)
The other reason I want to upgrade is to see if the coil will help out the MTH tune that is on BLU-BY-U, with the Blue Taylor Thundervolt 50 wire set. I will let you know if I feel a diff. It is also going on our 2007 MCSC, RUDEBOX, but I am sure it will only make him that much quicker, him being Chili Red, having a Red MSD coil, and getting Red Taylor Thunder Volt 50 wires. I think Chuck will agree RUDEBOX will be hard to beat with all that Red.
