HPR May 16th & 17th
HPR May 16th & 17th
Hi are you looking for some action on a race track?
RMVR (Rocky Mountain Vintage Racing) is looking for some help for the Inaugural HPR (High Plains Raceway) race weekend.
The track is 17 miles east of Byers, Colorado. About 1 hour from Denver.
We need corner workers/flagging team and grid workers (We provide training and the best seats in the house). No experience needed, both days or Saturday only or Sunday only.
What you will see at the track, example below are great race cars but finer and faster vintage class race cars on May 16&17. Some exhibition cars and true classics will be out here for the first RMVR race at High Plains Raceway
Contact me via email here at NAM, I will get your particulars and put you in touch with our Flagging&Communications or Grid Chief.
We will also need workers for the July and Oct. races at HPR. If you love it, you could become a regular worker. As well as our other race at Pueblo.
Did I mention, best seats in the house, free beer, free food, nice places to stay, if you need them. Well, HPR (Byers) is pretty basic for lodging, but clean.
What we provide, Sat & Sun free lunches, dinner on Saturday night at the track. We will provide accommodations for Friday and Saturday night at the local Byers Hotel, if you volunteer your time as a corner worker or grid worker.
Free beer for workers after racing each day at the track, when the track is cold and racing is done.
Expect lots of fun, great racing, interesting cars, Great racing.
Expect to be working from early Saturday morning until end of racing on Sunday, help pack up the equipment van.
Contact me, we really need some extra eyes and arms for May 16&17.
Best, Don

More pictures of today's lapping can be viewed here @ my Picasa.
Even a nice MINI or two was on track or lurking in the pit/spectator area.

Bump, some interest but no one available on the 16th or 17th so far.
Did I mention free beer? Also, on Saturday you can get some nice rides with the Vintage race drivers in their really nice Vintage Race cars.
Slow lap or wet your pants lap or laps your choice. Better than Disney!

I went today afternoon..wow!
Holy ***** that track is a BLAST!!!! But be forewarned...DO NOT go out there w/o sufficient brakes...I had a bad experience w/ street pads (Porterfield R4S)..bad bad idea...we are talking 115 MPH!
After the 2nd 30 minute session I had burned though a 2 week old set of pads!!! To the point where the pistons on one side actually pushed THROUGH the pad backing!!!!! Had to remove one caliper for the drive home and plug the brake line with a "AN" nut to get home. Barely had any brakes on the way home...was a bit scary..but played it safe.
Anyways gents...get out there it is sick!
PS- I passed a C5 Corvette..yes and he was cool w/ it...ya!

Front pads burnt up, not a good thing. I thought the Porterfield's were pretty strong for track usage?
What are your plans for pads and rotors for the track?
I guess I should plan on some track pads. Time to ping autoxcooper up in Chi town.

Those were the R4-S pads..I think the R4's might survive that track. In terms of Brakes..I just installed a BBK from Texas Speedworks (MDM kit which was wicked good till...) but clearly I was an idiot using those pads on this track. Should have gone w/ the R4 or Raybestos ST-43 like they suggest on their website. Rears were fine..was using slotted/drilled rotors w/ Hawk HPS compound..they were fine no issues there

So your going to go with a stonger pad, did you blow out your rotors? How did the rears look after the lapping day?
I have to ask, how many folks were out lapping?

Rotors are fine...it was the streetable R4-S pad in the front which was the issue. I am running Hawk HPS w/ slotted/drilled rotors in the rear and they are fine..no issues there.
So guys running stock calipers, or BBK like me, just make sure to put a race grade pad on the fronts and good new brake fluid...period....or drive slow
(R4, R4-1, Hawk 9012, PFC 01, Raybestos ST-43...etc)The sessions were 30 minute sessions alternating between the street cars and race cars. In terms of street cars there were maybe 8-10 total that day...lots of room
Race cars probably 30
