What time would you be hitting 36. I plan on leaving about 6:45, but I'm usually running a little late.

At least cruise down together and get a bagel at the second Starbucks to go with the Grande from the first Starbucks.

Shannon, new house? We will see you at MITM3 at least, right?

Jennifer and I are coming down from Nederland for the drive, it sounds like a blast! Any plans for us northerners to meet up somewhere on 36 for the trip south?

So I have the perfect spot for us to meet up on 36. If you get off the Church Ranch Exit, go through the light onto the onramp, there is an old RTD bus pullover spot (they are not there anymore) I think we can hijack this for 5 minutes are so to meet up, then take off from there. It takes roughly 40 minutes to get to Lone Tree, so I am proposing that we leave that spot no later than 6:40 AM. I want to make sure we meet up with the rest of the pack in Lone Tree. I'm suggesting we don't get out of the cars and attrack local law enforcement attention. I'm going to be there at 6:35, then leave at 6:40. See you there or down at Lone Tree! old81 - get up earlier!

GPX File

So I did a couple of tricks to grab the Google Maps data into a GPX file for those doing the GPS thing. I have NOT tested it. The wife has it driving back from the West Slope. Someone make sure this works for me? Should have the waypoints, the comments and the route.. Rename the .txt to just the .gpx, then import it using any number of import utilites. I use EasyGPS. See you on the road!

Sounds good - see everyone around 6:35!

Think it's safe to be running summer tires? I was going to switch them out tonight. It's supposed to be in the 60s this weekend up in the hills.

I've been running my summer tires since AMVIV in March.
There will be enough of us to pull you out of the snow bank.

Sorry I can't make this one. Sounds like a great ride.

I live around the corner from here. They are currently demoing the parking area and constructing a 7-11. I haven't been paying attention as to whether you could pull in and meet here or not, but I tend to think you'd best have a backup plan. I would suggest that you either meet across the street in the Macaroni Grill parking lot, or just past the old park n ride at the hotel.

Have fun!

Radio Info

Hand-held FRS/GMRS radios (found at Radio Shack, Walmart, etc) keep you connected to other Miniacs. FRS channel 7 is the channel of choice during MINI/Mini events. In addition, "sub channel" 21 (actually a sub-audible CTCSS tone) is typically used so you hear only calls made from others sharing the same tone.

If you are on channel 7 but you have the wrong CTCSS tone enabled, you won't hear calls from your group AND they won't hear you either (except those who have no tones enabled, or have the same wrong one). If you don't have ANY tone enabled, you will hear ALL users on channel 7 but others in your group using tone 21 still won't hear you.

More detail: Even though the CTCSS tones help by allowing you to hear only others on the same "sub channel", two users on channel 7 using different tones cannot transmit at the same time and expect to be heard clearly. You are still sharing the same radio-frequency channel. You may also see the terms "private line" (PL) and "quiet codes" used for CTCSS.

Really a geek like me? Here's more info on tones and such, and this on tone variations across manufacturers.

Bottom line? Everyone uses no tones at all -- or better, everyone uses the same tone (which hopefully means the same sub channel). And the same main channel, of course! 7-21

Wow! Thanks for the info. Is there anyway to get my teenage daughter onto a different CTCSS?
Vince, now that your MINI is like new will you be joining us tomorrow?

The former park-and-ride area probably isn't reliably accessible any more because of the construction, but I think therooster's talking about the bus pull-in at the on-ramp from Church Ranch on to 36 south (where the bus used to actually pick up passengers).

Kendall and I can't go because of other commitments, but have fun!

Read Vince's post Jonathan; same channel just different sub-audible CTCSS tone. That way she would be on my same channel, I just couldn't hear her!

Dianne - we have missed you guys. Need to come on a ride with us again. Or better yet, come up with a ride for June 21st and win a big prize. See this thread: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...d.php?t=138027

The ramp is exactly what I'm talking about. I drove this last night to ensure that the ramp is still open, it is, and I think it will fit about 10 of us (although I can't see 10 of us up north, some people MUST live down south)

I really do want to stress us not hanging out there, there is a lot of police activity around that area. It is an on-ramp after all, let's have fun pulling someone out of a snow bank cause they took it too fast instead of a fender bender becuase we were checking out the latest car shoes.

Radios will be on....

Thank You!!
So since I'm radio stoopid , this means all brands(ie. Cobra, Motorola, etc.) should work with each other as long as they are on the same Channel/sub Channel? I have a set of Cobra radios and I hope they work!!
