Watch this space for details. And set aside the date of

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 14TH from 11 am to 5 pm

More fun than a barrel of monkeys. Gas up the MINI, get yourself a co-pilot (trust me, you will need one) and plan to join us.

Rudebox - There is a predetermined route(s?) that is a closely guarded secret. It will be enjoyable, enlightening, entertaining, enthralling and possibly enriching. Details to come but having participated in last year's Yalla Yalla I can say it is a not-to-be-missed event.
Hope to see you there!

As Chuck says, the route is a secret beforehand, but the event usually starts in Denver and involves a couple hundred miles of driving. Last year's route went from Schomp to Castle Rock and up into the foothills then back to Littleton; 2005 was up 285, through Evergreen, past the Mt. Evans road, and through Central City/Blackhawk back to Golden.

Need is such a strong word, as long as you are a kindred spirit that is fine.
Own a MINI, Mini, MINI van, how about a just a car you wish was a mini-something? You're good to go!

Be sure to sign up for YY07

and no, you don't need to be a member. Anyone is welcome.

Only two weeks left to YY07

Yalla Yalla is the MINI5280 Anniversary Event each year. Please be sure to let us know if you will be joining. Go to the MINI5280 Calendar right her in NAM to sign up:

MINI5280 Calendar in NAM

Note this is an all day event, starting at 11 am and ending up with dinner (optional) at the ending point. In any case, you will want to be there to collect your prizes.

This year's YY fee is $2.50 at the door. However, if you pay your MINI5280 dues at YY ($27) then there is no fee for YY itself.

Thanks,

Jonathan

A few notes about YY07

No, we cannot tell you where it takes place. That is a secret. The only thing you need to know is that the starting point is Elitch's, downtown. Plan to arrive before 11 am, we leave at 11 am.

Bring a full tank of gas, a good attitude, and most importantly a NAVIGATOR. It will be hard to do well in this event without one, tho you will surely enjoy the ride.

Come with an open mind. YY is an event like no other. If you have done it in the past you know that:
  • There is usually music
  • There is usually a quiz
  • There is usually a scavenger hunt
  • There is always a ride to points unknows
  • and there are always lots and lots of prizes from Ralph Schomp MINI, Detailers Paradise, Yokohama, outMotoring, and MINI5280 itself. You should not go home empty handed.
Questions? Post here. Happy to answer them.

See you Sunday, but be sure to sign up in the MINI5280 Calendar right here in NAM.

Jonathan

Our dues are already paid. What's the $2.50 fee? We must be back to Loveland in time for the opener of the Colorado Eagles hockey game (7pm). There's a fun event every one should motor to.

Glad you asked.

The $2.50 is the entry fee (nothing is simple or apparent with YY) and it helps defray the cost of the Super Bowl tickets that someone will win.

We plan to be at our ending point at 5 pm but it will go later than that.

We will make sure you leave Denver in time to get back to Loveland...

Missing this one

Well darn, I will be at a Wedding in Omaha. Someone please post some good pictures and the YY07 route when it is known.

Time to check the calendar to see if I can get in another close run or two with the 5280.org folks before year end.

Driver, Co-Driver (Navigator)

If you're a driver in need of a co-driver (a.k.a. navigator) or a driver willing to become someone's co-driver, post here (then send private messages to each other). The reason is that it's much easier and enjoyable to work as a team than alone. Without a co-driver, the driver is forced to stop often to read the ridesheet, answer questions, write things down. Could be dangerous to try to do all this while driving, not to mention less successful. This Yalla Yalla is a "gimmick rally (or rallye)," with no time/speed element, except to finish at a predetermined end time. As such, the co-driver/navigator role is very important to the success of the team, more so than the driver! The co-driver enables the driver to easily make the correct turns. The driver just drives and looks for landmarks, watches the odometer, etc. Remember, the Yalla Yalla organizers are trying to trick you, in the name of fun and games. Hedge your bets buy employing your best co-driver (or two or three) and have fun!

Tips: In addition to the items listed on the MINI5280 Event Calendar, bring a clipboard and a pen. Learn more about rallyes at www.therallyclub.org (click What's a Rallye > Gimmick Rallye), but remember that all gimmick rallys are different.

Just a few tips. I already have my co-driver lined up.
Rick

I will have a very good, 17 year-old co-pilot available for a needy pilot. He'll be riding with me to the starting point and can transfer to your car there.

See y'all there. This is a first for us. Did MITM2 and had a blast. Bev is my co-pilot. Will even have my new vanity plates this week (MR MINI).

I need a co-pilot! My usual partner backed out so the passenger's seat will be sorely empty.

Please let me know who's available!

It will not be impossible to do the course without a co-pilot. So show-up anyway and we can start a bidding war for my son. He is a great navigator (we didn't get lost during last year's Yalla Yalla), pleasant conversationalist and even very hygienic (for a 17 year-old that is).
Really though, the actual course is not so difficult that you need a turn-by-turn person sitting next to you so all is not lost if you show up without one.

We just picked up or mini last weekend. This sounds like a lot of fun so count us in. We will be paying our membership dues on Sunday.

I have had the full perma-grin since we picked her up and this just sounds like another opportunity to enjoy the ride with others in the same mindset.

This seems like a great website/group with lots going on. We can not wait to join the fun

There may be a snag with my co-pilot for rent. He has a swim meet Saturday & Sunday. If he finishes his events on Sunday before Yalla Yalla I'll bring him.
In my world swimming is something you do to stay alive - he does it for fun though.

Next Time

Oh oh -- we probably won't make it this time. Two things: After reviewing the ins and outs of gimmick rallyes, it seems they are not something you just jump into without at least some mental practice (we haven't had a spare minute lately)! The other is the lousy weather forecast.

Hope you all have a great time. And GO ROCKIES!!

Vinny, Vinny, Vinny

A little weather never got in the way of a MINI. Remember that:
  • The weather would not stop the Broncos from playing
  • Nor will anything stop the Rockies
  • We will be DONE in time for the Rockies (we will be with TV's anyway)
  • and you have NO idea what you will be missing. Trust me on that.
Come join us. You will not be very sorry.

Yalla Yalla is tomorrow

Please dress warm. Please arrive early at Elitch's for pickup of your packets. We will let you go as soon as you are ready.

We have a real 'heartwarming' ending for you so don't worry about being out in the cold.

We will have beverages and snacks for you at the beginning and mid-point, and at the end. Plus there are plenty of opportunities along this route.

Come, join us, have fun. You will see. Don't be afraid.

You will be home in time for the Rockies. Just a little part of this event that was not planned for....
